Olynyk and Smart mirror each other. One was ready made on one side of the court, but not the other.
Kelly seems to becoming a serviceable center on defense. Less and less do I see him being overprotected and always getting the weaker of the opponent's two bigs.
Perhaps Marcus Smart can become above average on offense. His development has been stifled a bit by Evan Turner who has much more experience.
These are some of the questions to be answered.
Is Evan Turner for real? Is he developing into a true Celtic or is he Jordan Crawford "we are not tanking" filler?
Is Turner holding back Smart? Can Smart be a pg? If not, or for not more than as a backup for pg offense, can we keep two shooting guards such as Bradley and Smart?
I understand the league is evolving. It is getting complicated like trying to figure out football.
The league is going to fielding the five best players over height or old-time ways of defining the five positions.
The trading deadline seems to be the biggest factor.
With all due respect to fans of Evan Turner, I hope he is traded in regards to this season. We need a second pg. Rozier is too young. I don't like what Turner brings to the table. The game is no fun with his style. It becomes work. It becomes like the final years of the Big Three knowing the regular season games were crap shoots and let's pray they can get healthy and turn on the switch.
I call this the joie de vivre factor. It is a part of the philosophy of roster chemistry.
Who plays for the love of the game?
Who plays for themselves?
Evan Turner to me represents the treadmill.
When guys like Smart, Bradley, Crowder, Olynyk, and Amir are out there, that is your love of the game starting lineup.
Isaiah Thomas for all his hall-of-fame skills is just like them with lunch pails. People told him he was too small, can't defend.
It is a delicate balance, all this talk of team chemistry, talent, and a pure love of the game. Stevens has it. So does Danny.
Turner might be trying his best, and I admit he wins us some games, but when he is on the court I can sense baggage, the same with Sully. It's not that they're bad guys. They just don't seem like good fits.
I hope Smart is given a solid chance to be the #2 pg with no help from Turner and there is a problem solved. Turner is #3 for pg and otherwise he is just another guy, imho. I'd rather have Pressey. I'd rather have everyone on the same page with a full-out running attack and ferocious ball hawking defense. I mean Pressey as long-term third pg, #10-15 roster guy on a reasonable contract, or someone like that.
It's like Rollie says about Zeller. One can call him a scrub, but that's called an opinion, and he'll just have to be replaced anyway.
Styles win boxing matches and NBA games. We saw a glimpse of the future last night.
