2018 Brooklyn pick, Celtics, and Dallas pick this year, Bradley, Sully, Rozier, Hunter

That's an awesome package for Harden a top 15 talent in the league, Mvp candidate just last year.

James would be awesome here. Smart and Harden would be fantastic plus Crowder to cover up for his defense. Thomas and Harden. Wow.

It gives us a star, plus keep the Brooklyn picks the next two years. Hard to pass that up.

All I'm gonna say that I have NEVER seen such a great offensive player being so bad, disinterested, lackadaisical and funny on the defensive end of the floor. He's all about money, women and bling. Just about as opposite as my fav players on the C's (Smart, Crowder, AB & IT). He goes very well with DH in Houston. Paint your face clown!

So no, don't want Harden on my team even for the price of being bad to mediocre for the next ten years...

Repeat that standing in the garden!
Watch defensive "highlights" of harden.  I wouldn't want him anywhere near the team.  Anyone who disliked rondos defense will drop dead from what harden does when he isn't on offense

I would choose a different "superstar" to go after.

Yes.
Yeah, I agree. Even if Smart was required, not in addition to all that, but in place of someone.

Harden's mentality and effort level sometimes worry me though. I feel like you need someone on the team to hold him responsible. Just off the top of my head, someone like David West.

While it's a fair offer it would depend on what other moves we could make. I don't want Harden on a team where he is the best player because he would need other stars to keep him in line and playing hard. If he's not doing it in Houston, why would he do it in Boston? Could having Harden alone attract a big man free agent so we wouldn't have to use our other picks in subsequent necessary deals?

We need to upgrade our front line first and foremost, and I don't know who is available besides Dwight Howard who we already know wouldn't work with Howard, or Tyson Chandler who's on a ridiculous deal. Marc Gasol? Is he going to keep Harden in line? Hassan Whiteside? Forget about it, unless you want Brad Stevens to kill himself.

From a value standpoint, you really cannot say no to the deal proposed in the OP.  No way Houston accepts that package, though.

But Harden really needs to get his act together.  He has the talent to be as good as anyone in the game, but lacks the proper focus and seems very selfish.  Plus, he has a very strange personality.  Seems rather aloof.  I don't know if Stevens has the cache to get his attention.  Harden needs a big name coach to put a foot in his butt.

People give Dwight crap for being a clown or a diva, but Harden is something way worse.  Howard at least has the right focus (trying to play the "right" way), he just comes across as whiny and lacking determination (or has in the past).  Harden seems like he doesn't give a rats behind how the team does if he isn't the one putting up the big numbers.  Howard is perfectly happy if the team is winning even if he isn't the one getting the headlines.

I'd even do 2017 over the 2018 but the deal still isn't happening. Not sure what makes Harden tick but he is an odd fellow. I believe a team of role players and him scoring thirty a night for a prime franchise in a big city is all he wants.

How about if lakers end up with 3rd pick? Could they trade the pick, Russell, Randle, and Williams for Harden? Lakers also could sign Whiteside in FA? Showtime would not refer to great plays but real opera lol

It's funny because even if I don't like Harden's attitude or leadership, he and Smart complement each other perfectly.

That's what I'm saying JR, not worried about his lack of leadership here, Crowder and Smart would literally beat the crap out of him if he didn't bring it,

Offensively he's exactly what this team needs, and our roster fits him perfectly.

Coach Stevens would help him greatly, or he's gone in 2 and a half years at a very reasonable contract.

Well, that's the maine problem with him. If you need a third, fourth or some other role player to set things up for a star player, all I can say is good luck with that. I don't want that on the C's. I want our best player to set standards for the others. He's the face of the franchise, he's the most paid player on the team so if he is not on the ground, if he's not giving it all every night, how can you expect that from the others? No way, I don't want him near our boys... for example, DMC is sometimes acting like child but I haven't see him or heard that he doesn't care. He plays full heart all the time....
