Apparently Green is on the trading block and in the last year of his contract. If we're unable to trade Lee's contract in a bigger trade, would you do an expiring for an expiring swap with Jeff Green? It makes some sense for both sides. Lee would be a tough vet to back up Randolph, and they have a very similar game. Green would be the backup to Crowder, which you can surely do worse for a backup swing man. Green would also make us much more versatile in the small-ball department. The only issue is we'd have to get creative with the trade, because a straight up swap doesn't work in the trade machine.
Would you do it?
I'd be interested in the trade and got a little interested. We're looking for also a scorer and we could get one in the deal as well. We clear room down low by shipping 3 bigs for 1 big and Green. I don't know what Memphis is doing if they're buying or selling. But I'd be interested in a trade like this.
Memphis Trade
Randolph
Green
Celtics Trade
Lee
Zeller
Jerebko
1 or 2 of our multiple 2nd round picks
Memphis gets rid of Jeff Green and Randolph who's aging and taking up cap room. They get 3 expiring contracts plus say 2 2nd round picks. Lee could play next to Gasol, Zeller is a great back up center for them, Jerebko is a 3/4 that can stretch the floor for them some more.
Celtics get Green to backup Crowder and Turner can back up Bradley at this point. Randolph becomes our starting power forward and creates space in the bigs. Johnson, Sully Olynyk and Randolph become our bigs and also gives the chance to bring up Mickey if we want to.
Like I said not sure if Memphis is willing to give up Randolph to get a deal done but it'd be worth it. It could take a 1st round instead of a couple 2nd rounders and then I'm not sure.
