Pick one - Low Post Offense or Interior Defender/Rebounder

To help this team...if you could only choose one...what would you choose?


Very good low post offensive player

Very good interior defender/rebounder

Easy answer for me as I have been saying it on this blog for years. I want my center to be an interior defender who can be a top rebounder and if he can hit free throws, that's gold.

Between those two, I would've chosen Monroe.

In a vacuum, though, and all things (cost, contract length, age, injury history) being equal, I'd also choose the interior D and rebounder guy.

The exception to the rule, Asik. Don't want him... last couple of times I've watched him play his defense looked bad to me.

Other than that, I usually side with good defense/rebounder.

We have trouble scoring at times, I would want both but given the choice I would take the low post offense.

Actually I was wondering which addition would have the greater impact on this team as currently constituted.

So I threw the question out there.

  Neither really, Ideally I want Porzingis, Draymond Green and Towns or similar players that can spread the floor and do it all at an average or better rate.  I don't want lane cloggers that hurt you offensively so no Monroe's and Okafor's.  No way in today's NBA do you want defensive minded one way bigs, they are offense killers.  Would always prefer skilled offense with average defense from the bigs, paired with skilled defense and average (or better obviously) offense on the perimeter.

I'll take a guy who gives us consistent above average production every night without hurting the team on either end. 

I don't really care if it's more of a Tyson Chandler type or more of a Pau Gasol type, as long as he's actually, you know, good.  A player who causes matchup problems for opponents, not for us.


This team is a poor fit for a truly post-bound center, though.  If it's a guy who's more of a scorer than a rebounder / finisher, it needs to be somebody who is reasonably mobile and who can space the floor some.  Al Horford / Marc Gasol type of guy.

Would love Horford!  Looking down the road in the NBA a couple years it just looks like big men are going to be forced more and more to defend from the 3 pt. line all the way to the rim.  I want highly mobile skilled bigs not less mobile unskilled rim protectors.

A really good interior defender, with length, a rim protector, rebounder, with quickness and good over all speed, over a one trick pony low post scorer type.
