My definition of a 'frat' player is one who just doesn't give a care out there on the floor.  Cares more about the star studded lifestyle, than he does the game at hand. Lackadaisical, if you will. One who won't put in the necessary work in the off season, and one who just won't work as hard as the next man. One who will be in Maui a day after the season ends, with not a care in the world.  Doesn't care if he makes or misses the playoffs, as long as his check clears or as long as he gets invited to the after party.  For me, I can tell a 'frat' player by body language, worth ethic, and attitude.  Usually these players have all the talent in the world in college, but never amount to much at the NBA level.

I think we have 3 players that fit this mold:

* James Young
* Evan Turner
* Jared Sullinger

Just watching them on the bench, etc.  You get the idea that they are always happy.  Are they thinking about the play at hand ?  Or are they thinking what gal in the front row might be a 10 ?  To me , I think they care more about the glitz and the glamor....They're thinking more about the frat party's post game, more than bringing home the W.

I don't know the players obviously, so I hope I'm wrong.  Sullinger seems like more and more he's changing this persona, just based on his work in the offseason.  Still, I personally think all 3 need to go. They don't have what it takes & won't put in the work to put them over the top.  I hate watching their body language out there night in and night out.

To give you an idea, here is the anti-frat boy for a comparable:

Young<< RJ Hunter
Turner<< Smart
Sullinger<<Zeller

One player comes off as lazy, while the other doesn't. They may not be as talented, but they give 110% and have major heart.

I'm gonna have to disagree about Evan Turner. There are tons of times I feel like he's working harder than anyone.

so, you're basing this on what few camera shots there are of the bench during a game as opposed to watching what they do on the court?  Have to disagree on all 3 on that account.  Sully is often the guy showing the most hustle out there and Turner, while frustrating on the court at times, I don't see as fooling around.  even Young has looked like he's trying out there.  not necessarily succeeding, but trying since he can see the writing on the wall for him (I'm surmising).

Definitely spurts.  Re-watch last game. A couple turnovers and he quits.  Quits running, quits on the play, etc.  These are the things I'm referring to.

Ultra talented, but won't give it every game.  No consistency.  In the game prior to that, completely different.

Turner's a bit full of himself, but dude's a hard worker and clearly cares a lot.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

TP for the play on words! Very clever!

But which did you really mean? Having insight into an issue or inciting controversy.

TP.  Totally agree with this, been pleasantly surprised by ET's demeanor.  I wouldn't consider Sully to fit the description of a frat star either.  I think he cares, he just doesn't have the "it" factor with regards to putting in the necessary work.  For all I've heard about his offseason work outs, the guy looks as out of shape as ever.

There's more than one way to "quit" or not care. Marcus may go all out 100% all the time, but he's reckless. As a result he ends up hurt more than he should. Maybe he just doesn't care to play within himself or carefully.
Playing like it's a marathon shouldn't be mistaken for quitting or not caring. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to jump into the stands for a loose ball you have 1% chance of keeping alive and then a 50% chance of your teammate getting.
There are tons of times Isaiah Thomas goes 100% to try to get a bucket. He ends up driving inside against players a foot taller than him and ends up blocked and swallowed up. You can call that caring or you can call it stupid. The first time I called it caring. After that I called it stupid.

The OP comes off more like a psychic than a fan analyst.  Body language?  Work ethic?  Attitude.  Why not read the players' palms instead?

Basically, you have no idea about any of these things with regard to the players or what they might actually mean.

how so?  you mentioned how they acted on the bench but not what they're actually doing in the games.  Sully is the one big man who's consistently busting his hump on the boards and going for steals.  he's definitely trying harder on D than previous years.

Turner, for all his brainfarts on the court, doesn't dog it.  not from what I've seen.

Young, he's shown improvement and seems to get lost more than any lack of effort.

I'm not following this 'frat house' concept you're espousing.

Disagree hard on Turner.

Disagree on Sullinger, though he could play a bit harder on the offensive end in the post.

Haven't seen enough of Young yet, but he has improved this year.
