What about some sort of deal where we give the nets back their pick this year for Lopez and Young? I know everyone here will hate it and make snarky one liners but it could be a good deal for us. If the nets don't have their own pick they will have no incentive to tank and lots of other teams will, so that pick probably isn't going to be in the top 3 w/o some lotto luck. I think the numbers just work to be able to make the trade w/o having to give up Amir. Lopez and Young are about 30 mil. Lee and JJ are about 20 so we can probably make it work by adding some of Zeller, Sully Turner exc.
I'd prefer we get DMC or KD or Melo but if we can't do that and we could do this, it would be something to really think about. We would be left with a rotation like this:
Lopez/Sully/KO
Amir/T. Young
Crowder/
AB/Smart

I always look at what you get in terms of a trade as follows:
* Current gain
* Potential future gain
The Nets currently have the 3rd worst record in the NBA, and have been in that same position pretty much the entire year so far. That suggests there is a very good chance they finish in the bottom three, especially after the recent coach/GM firing potentially adding further instability.
Falling in the bottom three (or even bottom four) gives you a very serious chance at hitting the #1 pick in the draft, and as long as the Nets remain in this position that pick has the potential to return a perennial superstar.
By comparison Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young are 'good' players, but they are a far cry from anything close to superstars. Lopez is injury prone, is defensively limited, and can't rebound. Young is a solid guy, but is really a #3 or #4 guys - he's never going to be one of your 2 or 3 best players.
So the potential return of that pick far exceeds what we get from this trade.
I think of it this way.
If we did this trade, and then that Brooklyn pick ended up scoring the #1 or #2 pick in the draft - would you regret it? Because I would hate myself.
On the other hand, if you refused the trade and that pick slipped to say...6th or 7th. Would you regret it? I wouldn't, really. Lopez and Young are nice players, but are replaceable. Could live with it if I missed out on that.
I might consider a trade in which we send them some pieces and their 2018 pick, but that's all. That team is so bad that i their 2016 and 2017 picks are both way more valuable than any player they have.
