If he isn't traded by the deadline, I don't think he should be bought out unless he really wants it.

I really don't see him being bought out in any form or fashion. Maybe as a favor to the agent, but I don't see anyone of real relevance in his portfolio to really bother with giving this agent a solid.

If not mistaken his contract is still available to be traded during the draft... so you can't let go of that asset.

You are mistaken.  A contract that is expiring or could end due to an option can't be traded during the off-season like that.

Yep, you're correct. Then sure, I can see a buyout looming if it's looking like he will go unused for the duration.

The Celtics should prefer to keep him unless he would go unused even if the team suffered an injury or two in the frontcourt.

Oh for sure. But it's not out of the realm of possibility as I would've thought previously.

I've seen talk around the NBA (just speculation) that an Anderson for Lee and Sully swap might be a good idea, though I'm not sure how New Orleans would feel about that. I'd love Anderson on our team. He's a matchup nightmare and fits with our stretch-big philosophy.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Sure. But who does NOP throw in to match money? I think Ainge is highly adverse to adding salary short of legit long-term rotation guys (read: Adjinca doesn't fit the bill).

(Short elaboration: Weakens our defense considerably, expiring contract has no value to us, not interested to keep him for the future either).

David Lee for Ty Lawson. Not for any value but because Lawson's contract is un-guaranteed next year, which means $30 million in un-guaranteed contracts this summer (Jerebko and Amir), and Lee would be another good big off the bench for the Rockets.

I'd do this.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

That's a good one. I'd wait to see if thee's anyone better around the trade deadline for whom we'd need Lee's contract to match. If nothing else, this is not a bad move to look into.

Maybe use one of those 2nd rounders.

The fascination for Ryan Anderson, furthermore, a Ryan Anderson on an expiring contract around this forum honestly baffle me completely.

Our offense revolves around creating spacing. The current C's team shoots the 7th most 3's in the league but shoots the 26th best percentage. The fascination is that he is a top notch 3 point shooter.

While, getting him on an expiring contract isn't ideal there is a much better chance he stays after getting traded here than him coming here as a free agent. We would essentially be dealing two expirings for him so it's not like we are giving up a long term asset.

The Jerebko expiring is actually an asset because it can be traded through draft night (Ryan Anderson's contact no). Its non-guaranteed can be traded up until a couple days into free-agency. That's a big distinction.

On restricted free-agents, their cap hold is very limited in comparison. If we decide to keep them, with strategic planning, we can do our moves and then sign them without them hurting our buying power. Can't be traded in draft night last I checked, but it being a restricted free-agent might also give us an opportunity to sign-and-trade.

The addition of Ryan Anderson would hurt our defense considerably. Our rebounding will suffer as well.

His cap hold will hurt our buying power.

I have no interest in keeping him beyond this year as it is.

So yeah, the fascination for him is a head scratcher. In all, for me to consider trading ANY of our RFAs or non-guarantees unless in a very rare occasion it has to be for a clear-cut upgrade (analysis on this year and beyond) and/or have some trade value beyond this half a season (while keeping in mind the effect of our buying power in free-agency). By my count, I'm of the opinion that Anderson doesn't meet any of those requirements for me.

Edit: Clarifying stance a few points.

Lees contract is problem.  Many teams would like s good vet presence off the bench who can score, pass and rebound well.  Indy?

Agreed -- like Humphries a few years ago, Lee's contract makes him untradeable. Anyone who likes him cannot afford to match salaries to make a deal work.

Only Lee option in a trade is as cap filler in a larger deal.
