this is a tough one. Detroit played smart when they sat Drummond because the Celtics were eating them up inside. when Drummond left Brad had no game plan except to depend on outside shooting which, once again, wasn't there. so far R.J. Hunter and James Young have shown nothing especially as far as being "go to" shooters. and I'm really getting tired of using the term "so far" when talking about James Young!!!
I'm putting the fourth quarter of this game on Brad and a lot of these recent losses on Danny for not getting a dependable shooter in here sooner.
It's very frustrating watching the C's blow these games that should be definite wins.
I didn't watch the game. Why would Drummond being out mean the Celtics were forced to shoot from outside? I would assume Drummond being in would make it harder to score inside, not easier. Is he THAT overrated as a defender? Are Aron Baynes, Tolliver, and Anthony much better at interior defense? That would surprise me.
If you think about it, there actually isn't a plethora of great shooters out there in the league, especially ones that are OK at everything else. In general, teams draft players that have the minimum acceptable size/athleticism to realistically play defense or get their shot off, then hope that they can develop their shot to be respectable.
A lot of so-called sharpshooters in college come in the league and have horrible careers because they can't get open and/or can't defend their position AT ALL.
I guess this is just a long way of saying we have to hope some of our young players improve their shot. I'm ready to give up on Sullinger in terms of shooting because this is year four in a contract year and he has shown little to no improvement. He's only 23 and might figure it out, but why would he put in the effort to try if he hasn't already? A long-term deal would just make him more fat and lazy.
Olynyk is a player who would seem to be underachieving in terms of outside shooting. I rarely see his outside shot attempts bothered due to his height and the fact that he's usually defended by an interior player. Also, he's so hesitant he'll pass up 3s if it seems like a defender might come close to defending it. I see from his stats he's shooting 39% from 3 which is respectable, but it just seems like from games I've watched he should make more of them.
