There's a handful of attention seeking folks on this forum that like to railroad conversations by randomly parading around out of context comments I've made in the past or trying to lure me into a straw man.

1.  The "attention seeking" thing is too easy.

2.  One of the reasons why I love to bring up your enthusiasm for guys like Stauskus, Bennett and Biyombo is to contrast it with the belittling and dismissive opinions you used to have toward so many players on this team.  You've pulled back a bit on that because, I would guess, even you recognized how dumb it was as the team was playing better and winning more often than losing.  I will stand by the statement, however, that I've never seen anyone else anywhere online who was so negative about the players on his favorite team and so positive about journeyman-to-outright-garbage players on other teams.

3.  You can't "lure" someone into a straw man.  It's semantically and linguistically impossible.

I had a thought that these expectations surrounding Stauskus are at least partially due to him being taken at no 8 by the Kings, hardly the best franchise at selecting talent. If he goes 4-5 picks later, we probably aren't sitting here thinking how logical it is for the Sixers to keep force-feeding him minutes despite his lackluster production. If the Kings don't take him, what pick does he end up going? Would we still have such lofty expectations for him then?

most mock drafts had him going in the 8-12 range if i recall.

and i don't know that anyone has "lofty expectations" at this point. his ceiling definitely seems a lot lower than it was on draft night, but it's not unreasonable to think he still has a chance of being at least a good spot-up shooter.

Yes, but most mocks are based on guesses/rumors about where players might be picked, not whether they deserved to be picked there. A mock is supposed to predict what teams might do, not what they should do.

All I'm saying is that part of what we expect from young players is based on their draft position, without any consideration of whether the scouting report and pre-draft rank was accurate to begin with, or whether the draft year was shallow or deep.

I mean, is there really a huge gap in talent between Gary Harris (19) and Stauskus? Yet we have much more expectations for Stauskus because he was taken 11 spots earlier despite them being ranked 1-2 on pre-draft SG rankings.

Nonsense.  I'm always quick to give credit to Celtic players that deserve credit.  I don't lose my mind over Fab Melo getting a bunch of blocks in d-league so I'm called a hater.  It's ridiculous.

My "enthusiasm" for guys like Anthony Bennett and Nik Stauskas in comparison to a #16 pick... in which I merely asked if it would be a trade worth making, is more based on my opinion of that draft than anything.  We weren't likely to get anything substantial with the #16 pick.  Low risk/low reward options.  Why not gamble on a low risk/high reward option.   If I had a time machine, I'd still strongly consider moving #16 for Nik Stauskas... it's like the guy we ended up with is doing anything of note.

Said it a week ago...  Mario Hezonja hasn't done squat for the Magic.  If by the end of the year he's still done nothing and you see me create a thread pondering, "Hey would you trade our mid 1st for Mario Hezonja?", don't label me a Celtic hater or an Orlando fan.
