Don't like it for Boston. Evans who's been battling injuries all season (and depending on how you look at it, positive that we'd have him for next season as well or as negative for taking up cap space), Anderson who I'm not a fan of as it is, only an expiring contract, and Noah another expiring contract (and seeming on a decline and battling injuries).
So... I'll keep the picks and restricted free-agents for now, and their minimal impact to our cap space next off-season. Also the non-guaranteed contracts may be of use.
I would be surprised if Danny doesn't target guys on expiring contracts so that he can keep a lot of cap space.
As to Evans, I would be surprised (pleasantly) if we sign a free agent better than him in the offseason.
Danny shouldn't have to target guys on expiring contracts, he ALREADY has players in expiring contracts (including all the Celtics players used in the proposed trade).
And we're giving up assets to acquire them, which doesn't make much sense.
I like Evans though personally, so we'll see.
I just hate the idea of trading away assets we have pretty much total control over for half season rentals, including players who may be marginally better, if better at all, in the decline, injured, or all of the above.
Yeah I'm not sure I agree with the targeting expiring players either. We have that and are waiting for a game changing player UNDER contract to become available so we can use our assets to jump on it. That's why we've given JJ and AJ contracts with options so we have that cap space, or we can resign them if nothing comes available and then again have the cap space next year.
We are in a great place financially right now. IT, Crowder and AB all have 2+ years on great value contracts. The rest of our guys are all under 3.5 mil with only Sully and Zeller due for extensions this off season, whom I think we'll end up trading anyway. Amir and JJ are a combined 17 million in cap space either for us or for in a trade to get another value player locked up long term. Lee is 15 mil in cap space or in a trade to get another value player locked up long term.
We have plenty of expirings. Time to turn them into valueable long term pieces. If we miss this trade deadline or offseason, we can pick up Amir and JJ and try again next season.
