Nets are a lot worse than I expected them to be, but this isn't the first time they have started out slow and made the playoffs (they did the same thing KG and Paul's first year there).

What I do know is that they have 10 wins right now... and the team with 15 wins would have the 14th pick if the season ended today.  A ton of time left, a soft schedule coming up, and a potentially scary April where tanking teams roll over for a Brooklyn team with nothing to lose -  make a top 5 pick in this draft still seem unlikely to me.

Did you check their loss record? Those tanking teams still have a long way to go before the Nets pick falls to 6-10 like some people are predicting.

I guess I somewhat agree with the premise, and it's a shame since they started out so poorly. The Nets will still be a very bad team, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them pass teams like the Nuggets, Suns, Blazers, Pelicans, and Wolves. I suppose that puts the pick at #8, which is still good, but not the dumpster fire we were all hoping for.

The fact is, the Nets just don't totally suck. They play hard, have no reason to tank, and have very decent veterans playing surprisingly well in a system that fits them.

And are still a bad team despite playing hard.

Oh, they are a bad team and picking 8th in the draft doesn't change that. It's just really unfortunate that we are 1-2 against a team that is supposedly horrible, not only hurting our own record, but exponentially killing our pick from them.

the semi good news is that the lakers have won a couple in a row too so there's still a chance the nets continue to stink and could even fall into the bottom 2.  But I'm not counting on it. There is talent there.

Enough to be the 2nd worst team in the east.

8th is a steep dropoff I think if the Nets falls it's 6th at the worst. Besides they have another chance.

I sure hope so, but the Nets are within four or fewer games of eight teams (outside of the Sixers and Lakers). I don't anticipate us dropping down to the 10th pick and still assume around 5th, but you never know with injuries, runs, tanking. I guess I just wish they were clearly horrible like the Sixers and Lakers, rather than just bad.

I really don't care if Brooklyn ends up with the 3rd worst record or the sixth, the odds of landing a top two pick from those positions isn't terribly different and, well, there's been a lot of times where picks 3-7 or so have ended up landing in the top 2.

As long as Brooklyn doesn't fall all the way to 9th worse record, I like our chances of landing a top 2 pick.

Let's not get carried away saying the Nets will make the playoffs. They had a game where Lopez and Johnson exploded (and Young was decent too) and they barely won despite our team playing like p--- (and this is coming from a pessimistic Boston sports fan who in the Nets draft pick thread has been the one to say the Nets will not finish Bottom 3).

That said, we must win on Monday in Brooklyn.

C'mon, seriously? The Nets are not a playoff team. They are better than many on here thought they would be, but they're still easily in the running for a bottom-3 slot.

I'm one of the most pessimistic people on here when it comes to where that Nets pick could end up and I have a hard time making it worse than 8th, even with our usual lottery luck.

In general I think pining for one player in the draft is a recipe for disappointment.

It's a much better idea to identify some players in the top 10 you would be happy with then you won't be disappointed if we don't win the lottery and get Simmons.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I still think Brooklyn will be bottom 5, perhaps even bottom 3, relax we are slumping right now. Hopefully we beat them next game. A loss to Brooklyn is like losing twice. But to suggest Brooklyn will make the playoffs is a huge force.

I feel like r losses to the nets
R cuz of lopez skill scoring inside
While we lack interior help besides johnson

JJ going off was just a chamce encounter
As well as our overall poor play

After today:

Nets better than I thought.

Celts worse than I thought.

I am puzzled why Kelly was limited to 12 minutes.  Did Stevens see something on defense he didn't like?  All the others, except Thomas, and Crowder, were terrible, so it's not like someone else beat him out for minutes.

I'll file this game under "Unexplainable Sports Dominance" - in the same file as the extremely painful (and unexplainable) BOS loss to Portland Trailblazers waaaaayyyy back in 1985-86 season.

That one was our ONLY home loss that Championship year, and Sam Bowie outplayed BOTH Chief AND McHale in that game.

For all we know, BKN could very well be on the verge of a 10-15 game losing streak. And we could be on verge of running off some winning streaks.

Don't worry too much, people. :)

I don't care if we NEVER beat BKN again we have their picks for next 3 drafts, and that's cash money.

.....and equally unfortunate that our players care FAR less about that pick than we do. I have no doubt that in this loss and the last loss against them, that pick is the farthest thing from their minds. They played with no sense of urgency in either game or against the Lakers.
