Because the Nets don't suck. Like I predicted they will be there for the 8th spot in the end of the year.

No, no they won't. It's convenient that the Nets apologists only like to look at a certain portion of the record, but they fail to mention that the Nets are the third worst team in the league and the second worst team in a super competitive Eastern Conference.

They won't make the playoffs, but they will likely finish with the 5th - 8th worst record.

I predict either the Nets or Sixers will win a championship this year. :P

Pelicans are only a half game ahead of the Nets, with a game against Dallas today. Likely tied by the end of the day.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I wouldn't mind the celtics tanking this season by playing James Young and Hunter instead of Turner. Only problem is that it would hurt Thomas's development so it's understandable why they don't tank.

You act as if landing Simmons, either as a direct pick or through a trade, was somehow a reasonable expectation.

After the Nets slow start, I think many people, myself included, expected a very high lottery pick.  Despite the C's loss today, that still seems likely to happen because the Nets are indeed a bad team.  They're 3-7 in their last 10 games, and 10 wins in 33 games isn't impressive either.

Besides, if you had told many of the fans here that we'd get a high lottery pick in 2016 (again, very likely) at the time of the trade between the C's and Nets, I don't think many people would be disappointed.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I guess I somewhat agree with the premise, and it's a shame since they started out so poorly. The Nets will still be a very bad team, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them pass teams like the Nuggets, Suns, Blazers, Pelicans, and Wolves. I suppose that puts the pick at #8, which is still good, but not the dumpster fire we were all hoping for.

The fact is, the Nets just don't totally suck. They play hard, have no reason to tank, and have very decent veterans playing surprisingly well in a system that fits them.

I'd be happy to get a guy like Poeltl or Ellenson with the Nets pick. Middle or back of the top 10 is where that pick may end up.

A quality potential starter caliber big man prospect would be a major asset for this team though.

Nets are a savvy vet team and could easily win the next 4 out of 5 games etc.

They are way better than the 76ers. On the level if not better than the Kings (maturity wise).

I expect them to compete for the 8th spot.  Even if they come 9th-10th, chances of grabbing Simmons is really low

Give credit to Hollins for keeping them fighting too. They play a quality half court game when their main guys are out there and they haven't given up.

And are still a bad team despite playing hard.

Nets are a lot worse than I expected them to be, but this isn't the first time they have started out slow and made the playoffs (they did the same thing KG and Paul's first year there).

What I do know is that they have 10 wins right now... and the team with 15 wins would have the 14th pick if the season ended today.  A ton of time left, a soft schedule coming up, and a potentially scary April where tanking teams roll over for a Brooklyn team with nothing to lose -  make a top 5 pick in this draft still seem unlikely to me.
