When I saw Young and Lee in the game, I thought, "We are going to lose."

I thought "we are going to lose" long before those two came into the game. Cs missed a lot of open shots in the first quarter, and it was pretty much downhill from there.

Brad's setting a precedent. Flat tyres or dogs eating your homework-doesn't matter, you do what you gotta do to get there. You make millions of $$$  year, get a cab, call your helper and get to shootaround. The flat tyre excuse could be used by everyone if he didn't punish Smart with a minutes restriction.

I would imagine that Smart drives a very expensive car and you don't just abandon such a car by the side of the road and flag down a cab!!!  To expect him to do that is silly IMHO!!

If this was acceptable everyone would use this excuse and no one would ever be punished... bottom line.

I would imagine that Smart drives an expensive car as well - how often does such a high-end auto with, I'm sure, high-end tires, have a flat. Almost never.

This isn't Smart's first missed practice - he has some growing up to do as far as I'm concerned. You are a Celtic - get your mind right.

I think the same thing happened with Rondo. Guess Stevens has a no excuse rule.

Actually I think the count on the team now is Sully 2 and Smart 2. Smart's other incident I believe was during last year's playoffs, whereas Sully's 2 were during last year's regular season.  As I recall one of Sully's excuses was getting caught behind funeral traffic.

While its most likely he just ran late, the excuse of him actually not getting a flat because he's driving an expensive car is a bit ridiculous.

Now if hes driving a sports car, with big rims, and alloy ones at that, with pot holes, good chance he hit one, bent the rim causing the tire to go flat. But I don't know what he's driving, hopefully some one told him to get some thing a bit more realistic for New England weather and roads, but he's a kid with money so who knows.

The guy that use to dress up as Batman for the kids in hospitals was killed because he got a flat I believe and got out to fix it. And he was driving a Lambo on good roads. So very possible for any car, high performance included to get a flat. Especially if they don't upgrade the rims to something that can handle the pounding from bad roads.

Heck my POS car had alloy rims and I've bent 3 of them in 2 years. Changed them to steel less issues now.

Every car, no matter how old or cheap or expensive gets a flat tire here or there.  Really?

The media was told that Smart had a flat tire.  Maybe Smart even told Stevens that he had a flat tire.  Why everyone thinks that Smart actually had a flat tire is beyond me.

Does it really matter in the end? He wanted to ease Marcus back to health with minutes. If you go from 12 minutes the last game, to 10 minutes this game.

It's probably a blessing in disguise. And to be honest, if you can't beat LAL at home without Marcus; this team has more issues to worry about.

Who cares? Whats done is done. Julius Randle was the correct pick and the Celtics passed him up for a role player. Banks will be on his 5th team by the time Randle makes his fifth all star game. I'm not saying Randle is going to be a HOF but he could certainly be Z-Bo in his prime.

Flat tire or not you can't make exceptions to showing up late for shoot around. Stand by your precedent and the ground rules you lay from the start or youll be in trouble.

Traffic on the highway, traffic due to an accident, over sleeping, wife's pregnant....Its all stuff that happens, but if you're late, suffer the consequences.

Yeah, but, come on a flat tire? There's literally nothing you can do about that if you pick up a nail or something on the road on the way to the gym.

maybe and just a maybe, that BS is doing a no tolerance rule. It's probably one of those "I trust you, but if I let you go, others might start using that as an excuse to be late"

I don't think this is a big deal

I've gotten a flat tire before work before. They don't shut the whole school down until I arrive. I lose sick time for the hours I missed. It's part of the job. There should be a no tolerance rule in place and I support that. You can't change your precedent from case to case because that's when it starts getting abused.

That still doesn't excuse playing James Young over RJ Hunter. Seriously, what was that?

Totally agree!!!!

Young is horrible!!!!  RJ does things well and smoothly even when his outside shot isn't going down.  He will have an amazing left-handed block from behind or a steal with those unusually long arms or a nice assist.  Young simply does not and seemingly canNOT do those things at this point.

Smitty77
My opinion is that the team is trying to decide if Young has it or not. keep or trade.
They cant keep send him to the D-league, so they will give him real NBA playing time to help make the decision.

This.

Also, if Marcus just planned on getting to shoot around early, this wouldn't be an issue. For a 2nd year player coming back from an injury with a lot of gaps in his game, he should be getting as much practice as possible.

Even if this is his first time changing a tire I would give him (anyone) about 30 minutes to figure out how to change it or ask someone passing by, if he has changed one that's like 10 minutes at the most! He was late because he didn't give himself enough time if something came up. Just as someone else said, regular people deal with these issues all the time and there are usually consequences, there are other employees (excuses as valid) to think about and money/the work also.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)
