Smart missed shootaround due to flat tire - cost him minutes.

Apparently, Brad said that Smart had a flat tire this morning and missed shootaround, which is why he didn't get very many minutes tonight.

A couple of issues with that. First, it's pretty crappy to hold him back minutes due to something like that that isn't his fault. Everyone gets flat tires, and it's just a part of life. Second, this makes me think that Brad was covering for Smart, because he was late again or missed shootaround altogether. I'm someone that usually runs late to non-important events, so I'm not really a strict guy when it comes to being late. However, this is the second time that it's happened with Smart (if that's what happened), which can't happen from a leader on our team.

But that now makes sense why he didn't play him but a couple of minutes in the first half, even if I don't think he should be penalized for a flat tire. However, that doesn't get him off of the hook for leaving Young in there too long or not putting RJ in there instead of Young.

I think the same thing happened with Rondo. Guess Stevens has a no excuse rule.

Totally agree!!!!

Young is horrible!!!!  RJ does things well and smoothly even when his outside shot isn't going down.  He will have an amazing left-handed block from behind or a steal with those unusually long arms or a nice assist.  Young simply does not and seemingly canNOT do those things at this point.

There is a huge difference between not allowing enough time for possible traffic delays and having a flat tire!!!  Come on man!!!

Yeah, but, come on a flat tire? There's literally nothing you can do about that if you pick up a nail or something on the road on the way to the gym.

CBS goes back and forth between Hunter and Young for those minutes. I think it is based on practice performance and other behind-the-scenes factors, but those minutes are not earned in-game.

Brad's setting a precedent. Flat tyres or dogs eating your homework-doesn't matter, you do what you gotta do to get there. You make millions of $$$  year, get a cab, call your helper and get to shootaround. The flat tyre excuse could be used by everyone if he didn't punish Smart with a minutes restriction.

maybe and just a maybe, that BS is doing a no tolerance rule. It's probably one of those "I trust you, but if I let you go, others might start using that as an excuse to be late"
