Would you trade Sully, Lee and a late first for Big Al? This would be at the deadline and assuming we can't get a dream deal for DMC, KD or Melo or anyone else better.

Awful trade and I'm a big fan of Al.

I like Big Al but that is to much to offer the way the Hornets are using him.

Lee and a few 2nd rounders.

He is worth more, but not the way they are using him.

I love Big Al's offensive game but I don't want him back and I don't think he contributes very much to a team winning more games.

Been thinking a lot about this trade idea lately. My main hang up would be the injury concern, he's been nursing a bad calf for the last month or so. We'd be losing a ton of depth between Sulley and Lee if we traded for him and he was lost for the season.

Al's had a down year statistically but he was excellent last season and is starting to fall in their depth chart to Cody Zeller and Frank Kaminski. Sullinger is probably better suited to that spot in the rotation, and Al should probably have a bigger role to maximise his output since he doesn't really help too much in the little things but derives his value from high volume shooting.

Personally I'd pull the trigger. Its a great consolidation of assets and  I'd love to get Big Al back in green. Although honestly if DA wanted him he probably could have signed him last time he was a free agent. Never heard a peep about us being interested in him.

He can go after him next Summer. You do realize Big Al is in his last year of his contract? Injury concerns + giving up controlled value for him? That's just a terrible trade to make. Our defense will suffer a lot also.

a trade like this would have 2 conditions:
1. Ainge doesn't want to keep Sully
2. Al Wants to come home and would resign at a friendly price.

Sully and Lee sure but no picks. AL isn't what he used to be and probably declining.

Change the late first out for a couple if 2nds and I would like the trade. 2bigs for one that gives the Cs a go to post option and cleans up the rotation allowing KO and Zeller more consistent minutes.

This could be OK.  But I suppose the big question is, what's the end game?

If the intention is to make steps to becoming a contender, are we just better off waiting to sign him this summer?  Because Big Al himself isn't going to get the C's to Banner #18.

But if Danny really doesn't plan on re-signing Sullinger and we could get Big Al for him, Lee, and maybe a second rounder instead, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have him earlier and let him use this season to get integrated with the team and sold on staying here after this season.

So we trade two expiring contracts and a 1st round pick for one expiring contract?  This doesn't make sense for us at all.

I tend to agree.  Unless we're talking about a late first round/early second round pick.  We have too many picks as it is.  And if Danny really thinks that Big Al could help us win a playoff series, maybe it is worth it in terms of helping to attract other free agents next year.

But I'm not completely sold on that.  Still, given how many youngster we already have, something is going to have to give with these picks at some point.

Well it's one thing to consolidate, improve an asset, and it's another to just waste them. And you'd simply be wasting them.

Even if we have no intentions of keeping Sullinger, Sully at the very least has trade value all the way through draft night and so does whatever picks are used.

Big Al would also diminish our defense, and would instantly become an even greater injury concern. He'd also limit our options in free-agency.

All this for a questionable upgrade for half a season with a certainty of a meaningful reduction in assets for a player that can be had, if we want (I have no doubt Big Al would jump at the opportunity) next Summer. And I have my doubts we'd want him. The time to acquire him was a couple of years ago when we had KG still around. I would've loved it then.

It depends, Lee has a 15m in cap space that a team could write off the books.   I know last year teams did not care about cap space.   Will this year be different?   If it is the same as last year, you may have something, if not all bets are off.

You mean like use Lee's (or Big Al as it were) to take on a bad contract?

I guess that could be... but even so, we still have Amir's, Zeller's, Sully's, Jerebko's, etc. to use for those purposes.

So I just don't envision any angle in which trading for Big Al might be a good idea. Maybe if Lee was the sole asset and a low pick, maybe then.
