Hinkie just executed the plan that ownership wanted. If anything, the main bulk of the backlash is based on how supremely he executed that plan. Tanking on a level we've not seen tanking.
If you look at his moves one by one, he's done a fine job. They have yet to build a team using the assets but that will come this summer.
"The process" still might end up failing. We will not know for a few years. But to me, Hinkie seems like a perfectly capable GM. He hasn't "lost" any trades in a significant way. He isn't some jackwagon like whoever is running the Kings or Hornets. There are far worse GMs in this league and Hinkie has a healthy respect for the need for superstar talent.
It's not like Hinkie would show up and we'd immediately be a 1-81 team. If the owners wanted that, he'd deliver that, but I don't think Wyc has interest in this team bottoming out to that extent.
That philly pick wouldn't be insignificant. It's basically a lock for top 5. It would instantly be one of our three best assets (along with the Brooklyn pick and Marcus smart). It would potentially do more for helping us build a contender than any other asset.
That said, I think Danny ainge is one of the very best GMs in the game and I really wouldn't want any other guy running this team. He gets it. Hinkie seems to get it too, but Ainge is a superstar.
