Jared Sullinger was not able to come to terms with the team on a contract extension and will become a Restricted free agent this summer. We have a crowded front court and multiple first round picks in the coming years.

He's often been injured during his rookie contract and it's no secret that the team has issues with his conditioning.

He's far and away our best rebounder, on any given night can be our best player, and for better or worse wants the ball in his hands at big moments.

Yes -- Sully will have limited options in FA due to be a C/PF tweener with weight problems + Ainge will not want an asset to walk out the door for nothing.

LOL, I thought I'd be the only one who said he doesn't get a good contract offer elsewhere but it turns out that is all anyone has voted.

Restricted free agents generally don't get paid what they think.  Just the way it goes.  This year might be different with the salary cap going up but really, does Sully doing anything that you can't find someone else to do who doesn't have his injury, weight and domestic violence concerns?

It never gets mentioned on these forums but just watching him in games, he is killing us with his slow transition.  Even when he shoots at the top of the three he gets beat in transition by the other team.  He has a role, but I don't think it is even worth AB money.

I don't think it's accurate to say that he wasn't offered a contract extension. I'm pretty sure they negotiated and didn't agree on something, in part because when rookie extensions are negotiated, according to the Agent, it's MAX extension or nothing. So that's where it left of.

Not sure at what point that's true or not, but much like Zeller, I'm sure there were some negotiations in place, just no agreement, in part because there's potentially more money to be had this Summer and players have more leverage then.

Same thing with Bradley. Something was offered, he turned it down, still a Celtic.

All this to say... who knows.

I think he will be in Boston next year. With him being a restricted free agent the Celtics will get the final say on whether he stays. If he ends up getting hurt this season missing a bunch of games then I could see them moving on.

Ideally I'd like to see him dealt by the deadline, but I think getting value for him might be difficult and we shouldn't give him away.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I believe Danny will trade him before the deadline.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I voted that he priced himself out of Boston, but that's just because I think he should be making IT/AB/Crowder type money. I am not really interested in giving him a long term contract in the $12-15M range, but I also probably haven't yet come to terms with the new salary cap either.

There just seem to be other, cheaper options out there and while his rebounding is as solid as ever, his offensive game seems to have regressed. I think I would rather have a defensive stalwart like Biyombo for less money than Sully (and Amir for that matter). In the back of the mind I think I also have fairly high hopes for Mickey.

He'll be a Restricted free agent this summer. Unless you're assuming we won't offer him a QO? We'll resign him to not lose at asset unless:

1) He's used in a trade to acquire a "star"
2) We use our cap space in summer to sign stars

Great point I was mischaracterizing the situation . Edited my post. TP

I'm voting yes.  I actually think Sully signs an offer sheet elsewhere and Danny matches.  Not a voting option, so I went with "improved play", although that doesn't really mesh with my opinion perfectly.

no. please no

Don't pickup team option on Amir

sign Zeller to a 4 year 8 million a year deal

So our frontcourt situation will look like

Zeller, KO, Jerebko, Mickey

Draft one legit PF/C prospects or two with good potential

Fixed the poll sorry everyone, again thought he was unrestricted.
