I thought this would be an interesting topic, and I am sure there are players I am definitely forgetting right now as I quickly thought of players I am surprised how bad they have played.
While I realize these players are at all different points of their careers, they have all been ones I have been mildly surprised to completely disappointed in for the reasons below.
Ty Lawson - It has been a rather dramatic fall from grace for Ty Lawson. A year ago he was still viewed as an all-star caliber point guard. Right now he is playing behind Beverly for about 10-15 minutes a night and barely shoots the ball.
Nick Stauskas - I was really interested to see what he could do with some serious run and freedom in Philly. He has actually stood out for his horrible play, which is hard to do in Philly. He is shooting an unfathomable 35% from the field and 28% from 3 point land. This lottery pick could be out of the league after 2 seasons
Paul Pierce - It pains me to put him on here, but he looked like he had a ton left in the playoffs last year with clutch shot after clutch shot in the playoffs. He is mostly fallen out of the rotation over night over there seemingly going from reliable starter to end of bench player overnight.
Anthony Bennett - Maybe I am an idiot for including him, but I thought this guy had to have something to be picked number 1 and had just been in a bad situation thrown off by minor injuries. I don't know if people realize this, but even all time great bust Olawakandi put together 3 straight seasons of starting caliber NBA play. Kwame Brown lasted 10 years in the league and was a servicable backup big. Bennett appears like he will never even do that.
Roy Hibbert - Again I thought he was just in a bad situation in Indiana and was still a starting caliber NBA center, even if he wasn't quite the all-star level player he seemed to be for a few years. Somehow his numbers are even worse than they were than his collapse in Indiana.
Anthony Davis - This guy probably belongs in a separate category than all the others, but he has really had a disappointing start to the season. His overall numbers are ok, but for a guy that appeared to be climbing like a meteor last season spawning "is he the best player in the game mentions" he has nearly doubled his turnovers, seen his shooting declining from 53 to 48% and is scoring a little bit less. I think the move to put him on the perimeter is a disaster and he has shockingly regressed from MVP discussion to All-star level play. I also never expected for a team was on to play a 3rd of the season at a .280 clip even it was him and 11 larry hughes.
