GM's are salivating over Ben Simmons. And there is such a thing as draft-fever. Wiggins was not the player Simmons is and look what the wolves got. Anyway is suspect that also having Ingram in the draft will give GM's some more confidence in the pick because he can shoot and do everything and if something pops up on Simmons medically then Ingram is a great pick as well.

So no. Jimmy Butler is not even close, or in the same world as the cost it would take to pry the #1 pick this year.

My logic behind trading Nets pick for Butler would be because he is already proven scorer in the NBA, a leader, great personality and still has about 10 years to give. On the other side nobody's giving us for sure number 1 or number 2 pick, so it can be 3,4,5 or 6, you can't know that. It's an estimation. Even if we got Simmons or Ingram, you can't be sure they are next franchise players (you have plenty of that evidence still playing in the league or in the China, or in Europe..).

Wiggins wasnt quite the player Simmons is and it took KLove on a one year deal who had demanded a trade to get him.

I think Jimmy on a longer contract is better then 1 year of KLove.

that being said i think #1 is more valuable than butler.

I'd be OK trading the #2 or #3 pick for him

I've been watching a lot of LSU games, and uh, nope.  Butler has a chance to be a top 10 player for the next 5-8 years.  Simmons has a chance to be a generational talent.  And rookie contracts are bargains that come with RFA rights for the second deal.  You go for the home run.

Remember Danny said he's trade all players except for five in the NBA for Lebron before the draft. Simmons isn't in that level, but he's close enough that Danny's not trading Butler for a poor man's Lebron or Magic.

The number two pick for Butler is a better question.

To play devil's advocate, there IS the chance that this "poor man's Magic" ends up becoming Lamar Odom 2.0 - just saying!

Not that Odom wasn't a nice player, just that if you got offered Butler for Odom in his prime, you'd probably take it without too much hesitation.

To be honest I'm really intrigued by Karl Anthony-Towns. There haven't been that many big men in recent times who have put up the type of rookie year numbers he has this year on both ends of the court - the ones that have (Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Demarcus Copusins, etc) have tended to devleop into top 10 talents.

In fact, have we ever seen a rookie big man average 20 pts, 12 rebounds and 2.6 bklk Per 36 while also shooting 54%/46%/84% from the field?  That is just out of this world good.

Kid has a very legit chance of being better than Anthony Davis, and that is nuts.

I've been reading this thread and you've made some really good arguments that I agree with, so TP for that. But I'm not sure I can agree with the bit in bold. Odom in his prime was outstanding. I don't think the Lakers win their last 2 titles without him. Jimmy is doing very well but he hasn't shown he can do what Odom did yet. Granted he hasn't necessarily had the opportunity.

That's a lot of points but it was against a D league team and half of his points were from the line.

Odom had the talent to be a HOF player but he didn't have the mentality for it. Before teams realized that I agree that an Odom for Butler swap would have been fair value. Knowing what we know now, I don't think anybody makes that deal. Butler seems to have the confidence and drive to be great. Odom didn't want to be the first or even second option on a team, preferring to just take it easy and be a really good complementary guy. Despite the rarity of Odom's size/skill combination, in most situations I would rather have Butler.

I'd still take Jimmy B.

Yeah, his 53 was against PHI, but dude is STILL an All-Star, Leader, elite defender and scorer, at the NBA-LEVEL.......things that Ben Simmons "COULD" be.

So, say we get Simmons. Then what?

Adding him to this current team even "IF" he is as good as advertised will this get us past CHI or CLE?

Would we beat GSW or Spurs? Maybe in a regular season game, but any of these 4 teams in a series?

With Simmons? And the team as currently constructed?

Nope. Even "IF" Simmons is as good as advertised. And don't get me wrong I LOVE Simmons.

So, we'd be resigned to "growing" his talent with the rest of the team - for the next few years. Then what? Still no guarantee of Banner 18.

Get Jimmy B if he's available and try to snag Joakim, too. Joakim still has a lot to offer. I like his fire. He's still a good defender, leader, and passer.

Elite scorer?  He averages 23 points in 38 minutes per game.  That's very good but not elite.  Monta Ellis has averaged more points in a season and nobody calls Ellis elite.

Simmons projects into an entirely different tier from Butler.  I would always take a chance on getting someone from the Lebron/Duncan tier instead of settling for someone on a lesser tier such as Odom or Chris Webber or Klay Thompson.

Ok, so he's not an elite scorer...but I think he's an elite player.

He's creeping into Paul George territory, for shamrock's sake!

Haha.  True.  Probably behind Kawhi Leonard and a little less behind George.
