If we were to land the number one pick and selected Ben Simmons, if we could later in the summer convince the Thunder to do a sign and trade for Durant (and they demanded Simmons) would Danny trade him for Durant?

And if not, could you see and scenario in which Danny would trade Simmons for a player other than Anthony Davis?

The situation isn't plausible because there is no longer any benefit for a player to agree to a S&T.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Why is that?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Pretty sure he is alluding to the Geneva Convention. Or the Declaration of Helsinski.

He's probably referring to the fact that players can no longer get 5yr contracts in sign and trade deals.

The scenario isn't realistic.  However if OKC made Durant available before the deadline and with precognition I knew with 100% certainty that the Nets picks would be the #1 pick, I would most certainly trade it for Durant.  Durant would make us a championship contender next year and for years to come.  He'd also make us a much more attractive free agent destination.

Simmons isn't going to be the next Lebron and I doubt that he'll even be the next Durant.  Simmons passing and court awareness are great.  He's a very good rebound and seems to be a reasonably good defender.  There are a lot of things to like about him but he has no jump shot.  He's turning down wide open 12 foot shots.  His shooting can probably be developed but he won't makes us a contender next year.

I imagine he'd just take Simmons.

This question is largely irrelevant, seeing that by the time the lottery is drawn, Durant will be a FA for all practical purposes.

I wouldn't trade it for Durant by any chance.  Not with Durant not having some injury issues the past 2 seasons.  Simmons is to good to pass up and keep.  The ONLY person I would trade it for would be a Anthony Davis and only 1 for 1.

This is the worst comment I have ever seen on here. You think Ben Simmons, who has never played an NBA game and has legit concerns (has a worst jump shot than me), is more valuable than every player in the NBA besides Davis? Taketh a TP.
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

This x1000.  Simmons is so valuable because he has the POTENTIAL to become a stud, but he has not proven anything yet.  College ball is a different sport.  I would love to have Simmons as much as the next guy, but I'm certainly listening to any and all offers that include a proven NBA stud.  I'd be willing to trade him for basically anyone at or above the Jimmy Butler tier.

This scenario kills me because I feel Kevin Durant's foot injuries have to be as much of a concern as Ben Simmons' jump shot.  Durant had the same injury that kept Brook Lopez off the court every other year, which ultimately ended up in him having his foot rebuilt.  But here is why it kills me: in fairness, Pau also had that same injury and seems fine.

I am now gravitating to the young cheap player, in this case Simmons, and hope we can get a big name forward to go next to him.  I don't want to go to the conference finals every other year and never win a championship with Durant.  I don't see us winning a title with Durant if he can't do it with Ibaka and Westbrook next to him.  How are we going to put pieces like that next to him if we use our biggest asset and he takes up so much of our cap?  What if his foot goes out on him?  But again, here is what kills me: how are we going to put pieces like that next to Simmons if we get him, either?  I don't think Ibaka/Westbrook/Simmons is winning a chip anytime soon.

At the end of the day, I think I would like to watch a player like Simmons turn into a force on our team, because the Celtics have never really had that happen before.  I've already watched us add superstars and I'm just kind of curious as to what it's like as a fan to root for a superstar getting his legs under him.

I know Simmons has never played an NBA game before, and he'll likely never be as good as Durant, but if Simmons is 80% the player Durant is, and we could have him for 8 more years than Durant, I'd probably take Simmons.
