Meet the next centers for the Boston Celtics

 Two rock solid prospects that should be well within our range with our second first round pick.

 Damian Jones Vanderbilt. Seven footer avg 13ppg 7rpg 2bpg. He looks great with room to grow, excellent athlete, great hops. Nice big man prospect. Junior, but only 20 years old. 13th on the board.

 Diamond Stone Maryland, almost exactly the same size as Karl Town's, 7 foot 246 pounds almost a 7'4" wingspan.

 Not quite as athletic as Jones, but a big boy who blocks shots well and has a good touch from outside. Currently the #17 overall on the board.

Sounds like things aren't going so well for Diamond Stone.

Stone was viewed by some as a potential one and done top 10 pick coming into the season. But scouts who have attended Maryland practices have not given him great reviews as he lacks great conditioning and effort. He'll need to develop a stronger work ethic as his athleticism is below average by NBA standards, despite all of the accolades surrounding him in high school. He has a solid skill set and great length, but his upside appears limited due to his lack of explosive athleticism and questionable conditioning and work habits to this point.

This one doesn't have a ton to do with Stone's play in games so far. He's averaging 7.5 points and four rebounds in 25 minutes per game, and has been generally solid but unspectacular. This more comes from scouts who have seen him play in practice and believe that he just simply still has a long way to go to reach his potential.

That meshes with what the Maryland coaching and training staffs have said publicly throughout the course of the preseason, as Stone had never genuinely worked on his body before getting to Maryland. Coach Mark Turegon has also said that Stone needed to come a long way on defense throughout the preseason. Turgeon has noted that he's improving on that end, but the learning curve does seem to be pretty steep early on for the low-post center.

I wish we could trade up into the top ten and grab Jakob Poeltl instead.

 Actually Jakob is my back up plan if we don't luck out with a top three or four pick and nab Ingram or Brown. Hoping for Ingram.

 Worse case we grab Jacob with the Nets pick, but would much rather have Ingram.

If Simmons, Brown, and Ingram go top 3 why would we pass on Rabb or Skal? They are both more power forwards but I'd rather either of them over a traditional center.

Agreed, I'd much rather have Skal. Although I'd prefer Diallo to Rabb.

Not a fan of Poeltl, the days of big skilled centers without athleticism dominating are gone. With how defenses today switch and how small teams go the best centers in the league are all athletic marvels

 I'd take Skal over Jacob too. Was talking about a worse case scenario where the pick falls back to 7 to 9 range.

 I'd love Ingram, Bacon, and Valentine three more guys that play the two and three. Why not. Eventually will hit a home run on these two key positions.

Which big men in the draft are most similar to players that we always talk about trading for? Noel, Gasol, Howard, - not saying anyone in the mid 1st round will be that good - but who shares some of the characteristics that we need?  Shot blocker? Athletic/can run the floor?  Outside shot?

Unfortunately, last years draft had the big guys that are like the players you mentioned.
Based on the players you mentioned and their measurements both athletically and physically:
Thomas Bryant
Jonothane Jeanne
And these players have not proven enough to be a top pick, and are much more likely projects if they turn into good pro's...

At the draft combine we will have a much better picture and will have a whole season to research their abilities/skill

I have the feeling it'll be free agency or trade that brings
The next center aboard.  Wouldn't be surprised if Danny's bpa wins out
Over positional need in this upcoming draft, unless the stash option comes through nicely. I could see Danny liking
Ellenson (non center), but like Poeltl he's probably between nets and Dallas/Boston. 

Easier for me to picture Danny taking Hayes, levert, bacon or that Kansas guard over
Zhou qi, Zimmerman or Stone.
