I want him here desperately, but I don't think that DMC is getting traded.

According to the Kings.  ;)

Well, they would know.

I hope Celts fans are watching tonight since it's a nationally televised game.  Cousins is a beast.

The only Celtics fans are taking is that the Kings look better without Rondo.  ;)

the Heat trying to get Cousins is adorable. Riley nailed the LeBron thing but that move completely decimated the future of the franchise (not that it wasn’t the right move to do, it’s LeBron). but Bron leaving meant they had to trade a zillion picks for Dragic in order to stay competitive and now, aside from falling into a diamond in Whiteside and nabbing Winslow via a down year off injuries, the cupboard is bare. Boogie is the single most in demand tradable asset in the league right now. If the intent is to trade for Dwight in order to swap him for Boogie, it would essentially have to be a straight up deal as the Heat would need to part with more picks/assets in order to land Dwight in the first place. Not even Vlade is dumb enough to do a 30 yr old, broken down, disgruntled Dwight for disgruntled Boogie straight up, especially when there are at least 3 other teams (Boston, Washington, Orlando) that can easily offer a more appealing package than anything Miami can come up with.

fwiw i think Cousins finds his way into Washington if not during this season then during the offseason. maybe even bringing Coach Cal in the summer.

Miami's alleged offer of Whiteside, Winslow and filler is reasonably attractive, so we need to make a strong offer that starts with Brooklyn 2016 and 2017, expiring Lee contract, plus two of Young, Rozier, and Hunter.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jxgnwbw

I'll offer:

Amir's special contract, Marcus Smart, Sullinger, James Young, Brooklyn unprotected 2016 1st, Dallas 1st, a couple 2nd rounders.
The Miami offer is not that good considering Whiteside is an unrestricted free agent.  If Cousins came on the market, I'd think the Lakers would be stupid not to go after him.  So I'm not sure your offer would beat a Lakers offer centered around Russell and Randle.
You're right.  Russell + Randle beats my offer.  But who knows if the Lakers will make that offer.   If i'm the Lakers, I just keep those two guys.

And to Smitty... Russell aint crap.  Better than any asset we have on our team.

Russell is 75th out of 82 PG's in real plus/minus and 68th out of 82 in defensive real plus/minus.  That is CRAP to me.

He's 19 years old.   His team is crap.   He's going to be a great player.  I've watched him a little this year. He's going to be a sick passer.  He's going to be an elite shooter.  He's been much better recently (couple back to back 20+ point games).  Better than any asset on our team.  I would much rather have him than Marcus Smart.   He's obviously not there yet.  He's showing improvement, though.

I'd guess I've watched him more than you have.   The thing about 19 year olds is... they tend to show improvement.  Anyone who wrote him off after 10 games is a fool.

He had 23 points, 3 assists on the 9th.    24 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals on the 11th.   Tonight he has 19 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals.

Will be interesting to see how he looks next month.   So far this month, he's averaging 15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.5 steals with 39%/34%/73% shooting.  He's 19 years old.

Compare that to our best asset, Marcus Smart, who is 21 years old, injured, and averaging 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals with 33%/24%/69% shooting.

Yeah, I'd take Russell over him no doubt.   I liked him more in College too.

Russell:  19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.6 steals with 45%/41%/76%
Smart:  15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3 steals with 40%/29%/78%

I'm slightly biased towards players who can shoot, though.  That's just me.  No doubt Smart is vastly better defensively, but I'm worried about Smart's ceiling.  He's shown very little improvement (arguably worse over the second half of last yaer).  And I think if he keeps up this level of play for the season, his trade value is going to take a nose dive.   Russell's ceiling looks far higher right now.

I've watched enough of Russell. His struggles this season don't surprise me. He's come into the league a below average athlete - there was always going to be an adjustment period. He's a smart player who can shoot - he's not going to bust. But I'm also not going to assume he's going to be great, because I don't really know. He could also end up as a lefty Kevin Martin.

As for Smart, you don't like him. That's fine. I don't think he'll ever become a conventional 20 ppg "star" either. But I don't really care as long as he helps us win games - which he clearly does.

I actually like Smart a lot.  But there's lots of guys I'd trade him for and Russell is one of them.

Then you clearly do NOT appreciate ELITE defense and that is fine.

Dangelo Russell is going to be an All Star. The kid is an absolute stud and it's just a matter of time.

I would trade Marcus Smart for Russell in a heartbeat. And I LOVE Marcus Smart.

Back to the topic at hand, I don't want Cousins here. I can understand why others do but I just don't think he's going to ever reach his full potential as a hall of fame player because of his attitude.
Hall of fame skillset, high school mentality.

If he does get moved this season, we're front runners with that Brooklyn pick.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Look man, I'm about the most huge buckeye Homer in existence living in Columbus but Russell just isn't that good. I watched him in every game last year and several this year. Aside from being on the Lakers I want him to do well but I just don't see it. He folds in the clutch and tries to play hero ball way too much and it kills his shot selection

And yet he still went #2?

You need to watch more Lakers games because you're going to think back to these comments in a few years time and shake your head at how wrong you were. The kid is a stud.

Agreed.  That said, even though Russell + Randle beats our best offer, I don't know why the Lakers would make it.  That team doesn't have a foundation in place to win.  Cousins would be more disgruntled there than he is in Sacramento.   At least with Boston, you have a solid system and enough quality players that maybe it can actually work.

Miami would make some sense, though.   They could make a decent package and there's talent there for Cousins to play with.
