I have watched every game this year and have to say that Hunter clearly looks better to me, like no debate. I think Young has a hype train and people aren't looking at him objectively. He is a hustle player at best. There is a chance he puts it together like Gerald Green, but I don't think he'll start to become a real player for like 3 or 4 years minimum.
RJ on the other hand can shoot better than just about anyone on our team right now. He looks confident and sure of himself. His passing is excellent and I am really surprised by his defense. He has the tools where if he can come up with a few, reliable moves, I think he can be a starter in a couple of years. He just needs to learn to take it to the other team every play. James Young I think can be an ok bench player in 4.
Young has no go to moves and looks like he just drank 4 Red Bulls before every game, but in a bad way. He has nothing that looks like will develop into a go to move. He has nothing he can exploit into an offensive advantage. His defense is ok, but he's probably the 11th best defender on our team right now. Cool, he did good in the tournament and Bill Simmons pumped his fist when he was drafted. It would be great if he were good. I just don't see it happening any time soon.
Also, to the "did you watch the games?" crowd - RJ Hunter was doing all the stuff I see James Young getting praised for, but he was also jump shooting and not looking lost while doing it. If he wasn't doing better in practice, he wouldn't have gotten first shot at the minutes over Young and Rozier in the first place. Young is already RJ's backup and RJ has been in the league 2 months.
