Everyone seems to be pretty happy with how Young has played in the last few games in place of an injured RJ Hunter.

With RJ Hunter back at practice and reportedly healthy, would you have RJ take back the minutes Young took when Hunter was out? Or do you continue to play Young?

I asked one of my friends what he thought and I was surprised he answered differently than I did, so I wanted to see what people thought.

I like Young, but for the life of me I have no clue why "everyone seems to be pretty happy with how Young has played".

It's mind boggling honestly.

Did you see him play at summer league?

I think Young kind of got more of Jerebko's minutes at the 3 than whatever Hunter was getting before his injury. Jerebko has struggled mightily this year at the 3 and he may stay relegated to the end of the bench until Young/Hunter give CBS a reason to bring him back off of it.

As long as Smart is still out and JJ is struggling the way he has, I think both of them can get a little run, and I'd like to see that happening. Though, RJ was clearly having more stuff run for him when he's played, I'd like to see the same done with Young before Smart returns and we run out of PT for these guys.

I also didn't think much of of the way Young played in the past few games.
But I do want to see him get minutes over Hunter, just so he gets a real chance and we get to see his value and decide if he is part of the future or not.

Point is, he was terrible in summer league so expectations were extremely low.

Young has looked good so far, relative to his past play. He is in better position in help defense and has showed some potential in transition. I still think he has a long way to go with the mental aspect of the game.

Young can shoot the ball but isn't good at moving to open spaces to get quality looks, that is why his 3 point percentage is low despite having a good looking stroke.

RJ is already better at moving to an open space to get himself open, he understands where to be in help defense already.

The only argument that makes sense for Young playing over RJ is that Young has higher upside because he is younger, bigger, more athletic and has a higher release on his jumper.

As soon as Smart comes back, neither will get minutes.

Point is, he was terrible in summer league so expectations were extremely low.

Still don't know how that translates into being happy with him. It's one thing to be playing a bit better than previously, it's another thing to be happy with how he's playing as is.

So no, I can't fathom how anyone can be happy with his play at all. Nice to see progress, as it always is, but happy with his play? That's pushing it quite a bit no matter what rationalization one might want to use for it.

He's still playing poorly. Thankfully he at least is not turning the ball over at all, which is nice and cuts down on easily detectable mistakes.

My point is: he literally looked blind in summer league. if there was a mistake to be made, he made it.

over the past couple of weeks, James did not look lost. did he shine? no. did he stick out as a guy who didn't belong on an NBA court? no.

progress is progress. now let's hope he can build on it, and take that next step (which to me, is starting to see the ball go in more when he jacks it).

I think if you look at the box score, you say, "What's the big deal?" But if you watch the games, he is really involved, especially defensively, rebounding, etc.  The other guys are not looking for him much on offense. Frankly, that may change soon, because other teams are leaving him alone a lot more in the corner, and I am highly confident that he is going to make a lot of those shots once the team integrates him into the game plan.  I think Stevens has done an absolutely masterful job of coaching this kid back into a confident looking player.  Also credit to Young for not giving up, preparing.
