He said when Smart comes back from injury he needs to get his FG% up. Yes we agree. Then he said that good shot selection is every bit as important as anything else.

Smart needs to master the corner three ala Bruce Bowen. Bowen played until he was 38 years old by taking his shots, shooting a good percentage and playing his role.

For now Smart needs to find out where are his shots and play within his limits. He has much more Upside than Bowen but it's a start.

Side note Bowen didn't play with the Spurs until he was 30 years old! That's crazy to me. Smart could be much better.

The issue right now is that Smart does not have the ability to get good shots, which will be a big problem as a guard.  That's why he's always launching threes.  They are easy to get and teams will give it to you when you can't shoot.

Well that issue is an issue, he needs to be more efficient period point blank. .333fg% and .238% from three is not acceptable.

Probably sample size, but FWIW basketball reference has him as a 40% shooter from the corner.

I'm definitely getting a little worried about Smart. He brings a fire to our squad that helps so much but the shot selection and fact he might be injury prone definitely has got me thinking. I would say I want him to get to the line more but that again risks injury. Its like he either needs to start knocking down jumpshots or he's a serious liability.

He has only played a year and a quarter so far, he's earned a place as a starter on a playoff team and the current injury he has was a total freak scenario.  Not worried.

It's kind of hard for a point guard to run the offense while standing in the corner.

Unlike Elfrid and Mudiay, Smart has never been given the keys to run the team as its primarily ball handler and point guard.

We got to see in Summer League what he can do. He needs reps at point and needs to be playing D on the other teams point in order to force more to's and dominate defensively.

The shot selection has to improve. But im not worried about Smart, even without offense he still bring a lot on the table hence he will always get playing time and will develop. He's a hardworker too and competitive. He has a decent stroke so unlike Rondo its easier to improve his shooting. He should definitely improve on his finishing inside though. He can get to the basket better this season but the finish is still iffy.

His shooting is going to improve. The sample size is so small. 9 games, with a number of those coming after being injured and out of rhythm.

In general the shots he has taken this year are similar to the ones he took last year (except he is taking more shots around the hoop). It stands to reason that he will at the minimum shoot similar percentages to last year only with more shots at the hoop and fouls drawn. Last year he was a streaky shooter, he'll get hot again this year too.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I think Smart is smart enough to figure out a way to mitigate his shooting. He'll learn to adopt a set shot or something.

I would love to see Smart in the post a lot more. He has the size and strength to take advantage of almost every PG. Plus, he has the passing ability to find open shooters off of doubles. What makes this even more unique is that we have really good shooting bigs, so you'd be putting their defenders in unfamiliar situations where they'd be forced to help, or at least show, and then quickly recover to a Olynyk, Jerebko, Sullinger, etc.

True. But he's not a point guard. We may have to draft a point guard. Thank god for Thomas he can actually score and Pass.

Smart can pass, but he's not overly quick, can't get into the paint consistently, and I'm disappointed with his ball. Handling.

well one of the reasons he cant get good shots, and the same reason he'd have a hard time being a Bruce Bowen type of player right now, is that this team doesnt have a player that commands double teams and other extra attention from defenses.

Im not saying Marcus is currently as good as a three point shooter as Bowen is, but if you take Parker and Duncan off that team, a lot more of Bowens three pointers are contested because his defender stays home.

.....so many of this teams problems will be answered when they get a legit star on offense

Agreed with the star point, but Marcus has to find his way regardless.
