Should we go after him in FA? He's still relatively young and is having a great year. May be a decent fallback option if we don't get a stud SF in the draft and can't get a Durant type... Thoughts?

If we don't get Ingram or Brown, then he's an option for sure.  I like him or trading garbage for Gallinari

We have Crowder on a great contract as well as Young or Hunter possibly playing his backup next year. If anything we need a shooting PF to replace Sully, JJ, Amir, and Lee when they all come off the books next year.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Batum seems like a Brad Stevens type of player. Probably a target.

I think he got traded to Charlotte. Didn't sign with them.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Batum would fit nicely. Good shooter, good passer. One defense he's long has a high IQ. He's about to turn 27 (like, in a few days) so a 4 year deal this summer would basically be his prime.

It's going to depend on what our roster looks like this summer, though. I'm assuming it'll be quite different than it looks now.

Well, that's not true.

I was actually just thinking about Batum about 15 minutes ago. I don't know if I love the idea of tying up a lot of money in Nic Batum, but he plays both sides of the ball and can seriously shoot (he really does a bit of everything). I'd imagine Charlotte will try very hard to keep him, but Danny should probably give him a call.

No he didn’t.

Batum would be a great fit in CBS’s system! The tough question here is how much money would we be willing to pay him?

I think he'd be an excellent second-tier target if we're not in the running for someone like Durant. It also would allow IT to go back to the bench due to Batum's ability to work as a point-forward, similar to Turner last year. Also, his defense and size will be just as good if not an upgrade to Crowder at the wing, but he brings much more shooting, ball-handling, and creation. I think we'd be around a 55 win team this season with him. He has the exact skills that we need at the 3.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'm not a fan of Batum.
I think he's a lazy defender and he's careless with the ball.
Would much rather have Harrison Barnes for the same money.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I guess he could play the 2 as well. After all the Hornets are primarily using him as a 2 guard this year.

If I were in Ainge’s position I wouldn’t waste time offering a contract to Durant (since we have almost zero chances with him anyway). I would direct all my focus on a more attainable target (like Batum) with the hope that we get to agree a deal with him while most of the other potential suitors are still waiting for Durant to announce his decision.

Barnes is a restricted free agent though. Noah would be a great fit!
