As of this time and date, the Lakers are only 35 wins ahead of the Celtics for all time regular season wins. This record is coming back to Boston, possibly this season.

Many of the Laker wins and titles should go to the Timberwolves.   Just sayin.

Whatever ESPN and other major outlets say is the truth, regardless of the facts. I do agree with you, the Lakers deciding 15 years ago to start hanging banners won in another city was bogus.

Sean Grande just DM'd me back on this, said he made a note of it but didn't think it would be coming up so soon.

April 3rd could be a really interesting game now.

It always irks me the Sacramento Kings hang a banner from my hometown Rochestee Royals.

Saltlover, have I ever asked you about your name and how you came up with it?

No. It's a nickname from many years ago when I was a kid and liked salt on everything (like on my PBJ sandwiches).  It stuck.  Exciting story :)

it's the Laker franchise that won, not Minneapolis the city.  no big deal.  we're still ahead regardless.

as far as the win differential, it really points out how big a talent drought we had between the closure of the Bird era and the latest incarnation of the big 3.

Also, it'd be really tough to take the record back this season.  If the Lakers finished with only 15 wins (historically terrible), the Celtics would need to win 60.  I've been on record since before the last draft that I thought we'd win 50, but 60 is a stretch even for my optimism.  And even that is good enough only if the Lakers win, which would have been good for the worst record (or tied for it) in every year since 2010, excepting the lockout season.

But next year, we will take back the record.  No question.

I would have to sit down with a calculator, but I think there's a slight chance the Celtics pull this off sometime in the next 6 games.

Bumping for convenience.

Edit - changed headline, it's way less than 35 now

This is what I came up with

Lakers - 3,234 wins
Celtics - 3,217 wins

So the gap is definitely closing.

Would be nice to have enough wins to claim the winningest club, no matter what lame stats their side comes up with.
