Classic example of a player putting up stats on a bad team. While his averages look good. Take a closer look at some more in depth stats.
FG% 40.3
3PT% 33.7
TO's 3.5 (compared to 2.1 APG)
Offensive Rating 92
PER 15
FG% (broken down)
3-10 FT 23.5%
10-16 FT 33.3%
16-3PT 50%....so he actually excels in the worst shot in basketball, the long 2.
His true shooting percentage is 55.4% which is pretty solid for a wing. His TRB% is 11.1% which again is pretty solid for a wing. His AST% is 12.6% again pretty solid for a wing (especially one on a bad team). He turns the ball over a lot. But he is a pretty darn good defender. His DRTG is 99, Noel at 103 is the next best on his team. His Steal Percentage is 4.4%, which is currently #1 in the entire NBA as are his 2.7 steals per game. Again playing on a bad team that really only has Noel as any sort of defender. He is excelling in stats you don't normally see people on bad teams excel at.
Covington is a good solid player. Kind of guy that you can feel comfortable with playing on a contender, because he is going to work on both ends of the floor and contribute while doing so. Not an all star kind of player, but a clear rotation player on a contender and perhaps a starter in the right circumstances.
