Should we Start James Young

please correct me if i'm wrong but young got bailed out on one out of control drive with a foul and seemed to get blown bye on defence-okay that quard was quick and young a shooter missed two in a row from foul line-
and still gets tangled up by screener, more like bounces off-
i thought rozier should have got his minutes against the point guard-
just finished watching replay and that was like a mid season game

TP - I agree with what you say about his defense and much of what you write about his offense. On defense he doesn't make an attempt to fight through picks or make the defender feel the least bit uncomfortable. It's almost like he's afraid to make contact. He probably should risk taking a few fouls once in a while just to let the offensive players know he's willing to be physically tough and aggressive. Marcus and Jae do that all the time. 

On offensive he does wait around too much. Perhaps just a lack of confidence or Stevens has him on a leash telling him to hang around outside the 3 point line. He made a nice little floater over his defender. Wish he would that do that more often and find ways to get himself open to shoot shorter range jumpers (7-15 feet). With his height he should be able to shoot over most players.

I'm not sure why everyone is praising Young's defense. It was absolutely terrible last season, and it's been upgraded to 'mediocre' after this 20 minute stretch on the court vs New Orleans. He was actively trying to stay aware of his man, and he's starting to get his hands into passing lanes, but go back and watch his minutes and how many times his man or the player he was switched on to got an easy open look or basket.

His defense is still not ready for regular rotation minutes by any means. Luckily Ish Smith isn't a three point threat.

I am glad he got some decent time on the court though. He's a mental midget and if he's going to ever become at least a serviceable role player he's got to get his confidence up. He still tends to float around on offense just waiting in the corner, watching, rather than looking for opportunities to slash or cut to the basket from the weakside.

I'm not sure if he can go right, but at least he was aggressive going left a few times which was good to see.

The nice thing about Young tonight was that his defense has gotten better- although not NBA caliber yet, he's starting to get it.

The nicest thing was how hard he played. He played hard on both ends and wasn't as lackadaisical as he often is.

He's got a long way to go but he's still only 20 years old.

I'm sure it will take Young 4 or 5 years to become a good player.  Just like it took Avery Bradley.

And that's ok, isn't it?

He's not a good player...yet.

But I think he will develop into one.

For young to start he would have to outplay:
Bradley, smart, turner, hunter...am I forgetting anyone?
Kudos to the kid for working hard and improving.  He still isn't nba ready

Funny, everyone is thinking he's ready to start giving minutes to the team on a regular bases.

When I saw him in the line up so early with it still being a close game...."Huh...DA must have gotten a call about him. And some one must want to see him with some big boy minutes."

Now I thought he looked better, still a bit lost on both offense and defense. But looked more comfortable. I've been rooting for the kid and have been hoping he could be the diamond in the rough for DA. But if he also can bring in a more legit player, I would cry too much...

Unless he becomes the next MJ, than DA can hang! LOL

This is a very exciting time to finally witness James' breakthrough. I admit to have been a doubter, but he has certainly silenced the worst among us.

My question now is whether or not we need to change our draft strategy with the BKN pick. Say we hit #2, for example, and previously wanted J. Brown. Brown's kinda redundant now with Young's ascendance. So do we go with a guy like Poeltl instead?

I voted no, because I think the more pressing question is about what he'll discuss during his induction speech in Springfield. 

All joking aside, all of this just shows how premature it is to say ANYTHING about a kid who just turned 20 and played only one year of college ball.
