Some people eating crow in this thread. Typical poo pooing of players on other teams not being good enough to play on the Cs, when it turns out there just plain Ol' effective basketball players.

The arguement shouldn't be Hood over Young, but would Hood be an upgrade over Turner.

Turner is entertaining and infuriating by turns, but he's got the worst ORPM of any shooting guard in the league.  The worst!  Have to think Hood would be an upgrade.

Or you know they are just basically replacement level and everyone else can see that.

Why do people act like Rodney Hood has been that much better than Young?
Probably because he's actually playing in the NBA.

Yeah, I mean hindsight is always 20/20, so I don't like bashing a team for these types of things...but I was definitely upset we passed on Hood at the time.

The Milkman would've been great in Boston.

Hood is really bad on defense, and just generally he was never a good prospect taking into account his age. I haven't seen anything from him to convince me that he can be anything more than a 20mpg sparkplug off the bench, and right now he isn't even that. I'm not at all sure that he'd be getting minutes over Young and the rookies if he were on our team.

No doubt he currently is producing better than Young. But I'm not even sure he cracks our rotation! Who does he take minutes from when we are healthy? Thomas, Bradley, Crowder are the starters. Smart, Thomas and Jerebko take up the reserve minutes. Who drops out for Hood?

On top of that the comparison is a little off. Would I rather have Hezonja or Oladipo? That's the age gap between young and hood. Clearly right now Oladipo has the higher production but a lot of people think Hezonja can be THE guy on a contender. Point is it's too early to tell.
Since you mentioned it, Oladipo all day and it's not even close  ;D
And most people would agree with you! What I meant is there is potential there for Hezonja to be the better player at the same age. Much the same with Young over Hood. It depends on what direction your team is going in at the time. For us we were looking long term with that pick, not for immediate contribution

That's an interesting discussion. I can see the attraction of Hezonja's upside, but I still think Oladipo at his peak will be better.

Hezonja is young, athletic and shoots well. But he is also sloppy, does not rebound well (given his size and strength) and overall has not convinced me he is something special. Maybe if he finds himself in the right circumstances in the long term he will flourish.

Lots of clueless fans in this thread.

First of all, Hood is a starter quality wing. He's a consistent threat from 3pt range, finishes in transition, and has the length and athletecism to be an effective defender at two or three positions if he had a coach that enstilled defense upon him.

Hood's TS% this year is about 54%. Not great, but still more effective offensively than Bradley, Jerebko, Smart, Turner, Sullinger, Lee and Zeller. His WS/48 hovers around a .100, which slots him ahead of the same group of players..Bradley, Smart, Turner, Jerebko, Zeller, Hunter...

Played in and started 40 games for Utah this year, getting a high usage for a player that should be utilized as a spot up shooter.

His VORP this year, in 40 starts, is a .6, which puts him on par with Avery, and ahead of Turner, Lee, Smart, Jerebko, Hunter, Zeller, etc.

If you dont think he would have contributed a couple more wins if he was on the roster instead of James Young, you're crazy. He's a very skilled offensive player, and he's going to become more and more efficient as his career moves forward.

Per 36 minutes, a number he isn't far off of, he's giving you 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and makes opposing defenses play the perimeter tighter and open up other spots on the floor.

His percentages might not be stellar yet, but he's coming off an injury last year and he's starting in his first full season in the league.

Y'all are crazy.

Corey, you could say that most are crazy.

I wanted Hood then, and I want him now. Any chance Utah trades him for Young straight up? Ainge can pitch Utah on Young's unlimited Upside.
Oh, that won't work because Young is a bum.

I started this thread to see how many people would admit that we made another big mistake in the draft.

Smart and Hood would have been much better IMO.

And I have to add this for comedy purposes only.

Besides age I found the reason Ainge went with Young over Hood.

It's the reason Hood is a better shooter than Young.

Young shoes off is 6'5.25" tall
Hood shoes off is 6'7.25" tall

 Hoods wingspan is only 6'8.5"
 Young has giant 7' wingspan.

Boom! Decision made! Draft Young! His wingspan is 7 inches longer than his body.

Super long arms= harder to shoot.

 Ainge has the Brain Doctor.

KG-LL is now the arm doctor. Call me Ainge .

All good points.

Let's also give credit to Quinn Snyder, who is a good coach, and the Jazz, an organization that has done a really good job in general of selecting, developing, and trusting young, homegrown talent.

Pho, you onboard with the reason Hood is a better offensive player because of his short arms.
It's gotta be the arms. 8)

Seriously though, 21 people voting 0 wins. You should be ashamed of yourselfs, there is literally no chance he doesn't add at least 1 win.

It's plus 3 wins in the trade machine, and even that I'll take the over.
