Per DraftExpress: "Kris Dunn came to Providence as a McDonald's All-American and the centerpiece of Ed Cooley's rebuilding process. A serious shoulder injury hampered him severely as a freshman, and then another injury to the same shoulder forced him to miss almost the entire 2013-2014 season."
He also didn't play much his first year because he was behind Bryce Cotton who was probably the top PG in the Big East before him so I wouldn't put too much weight on his improvement. His first real PT came last year and he was on the short list of top PGs and expected to be late lottery to mid-teens pick. I thought her should have come out last draft, but he showed well in the summer camps and so far this season his stock has risen. Fills up the stat sheet and a good defender, but not a 3PG threat and sometimes tries to do too much as evidence by a too high TO rate Should be able to fix both as his shot's ok and he tries to do too much given a so-so cast at Providence.
He'd be the most balanced 2-way PG on our roster, assuming he can play in the NBA (which I do having seen a number of his games). #6 on the current DraftExpress mock, 4th in steals and 5th in assists nationally last season, and 2nd highest PPG in the Big East. Being 6'4" with a 6'9" reach makes him a freak for the PG position. Would fit well with our defensive orientation AND is a scorer and playmaker.
I would have taken him over Rozier or anyone else available at 16 last draft and he would have been a bargain. That being said, his draft rank seems more fairly priced this year and he's the top PG so far (excluding Simmons), but if we're picking from 3-8, I'd want a C or a SF.
