If Sully were to be traded, it'd still be unlikely for Mickey to play. And if he did, it'd probably still be less often than RJ ... even with healthy AB back. He's that much of an unknown. triboy, what percentage of 4s do you think would not eat him alive in the post? And with that, how much does his weak side shot blocking help?
And how would he not be a liability offensively? He's a tweener that hasn't proven he has an effective means of scoring in the NBA. For as much as we've clowned on Lee (deservedly so), he quietly gave us nice production off the bench tonight. Mickey... there's no telling what he would do given minutes -- we don't know, CBS doesn't know, and Mickey doesn't know... because he hasn't played NBA basketball yet.
I grant you the argument that he may develop into an NBA rotation player. If I had to guess, I would agree... but I'd be guessing based on instinct, nothing more. That's the point of the conversation. Mickey isn't starting today, tomorrow, and by most odds... probably never for the Celtics. But who knows? I hope he develops as well as you project. Though again, we're shooting in the dark.
I similarly voiced high hopes for RJ very early on -- he should be a "fixture" on the roster because I think he's a guy that plays better when surrounded by better players (like Rondo). I got flamed by some, and yet ... he has stuck with the roster. So I can meet you there. But RJ had also showed NBA-ready traits -- high BBIQ, he has good size for an NBA 2, and he was drafted with an NBA skill -- which, ironically, has been his weakness thus far. Can't hit the broad side of the barn. He's been seeing minutes (first off the bench in preseason, dating back) because of his BBIQ, fundamentals (especially defensive), and ability to space the floor whether he's hitting or not. Major differences there between the 2.
The only reason Mickey doesn't get minutes is because of the guys in front of him. Mickey was BETTER than RJ in preseason and SL! Let's not pretend otherwise. No, we don't know if Mickey's game will translate but he hasn't had the chance. If we were going by who deserved minutes w/o people ahead of them, Mickey deserves/earned his PT as much/more than RJ has! Mickey's has shot better than RJ and it isn't even close, he has also hit 3s in NBADL, that may not translate, but it wouldn't be worse than what RJ has shot his last season in college and every level so far in the pros.
I love all of our rookies, I look forward to each one of them taking over in the future (hopefully Young too). You don't usually hit on that many players in one draft, but they all look like they could develop into solid players.
Better in SL and preseason, how exactly? Counting stats? We know they don't mean **** in SL and preseason. There was a reason RJ was called upon first. Otherwise, Kaminsky would be a 20/10 guy right now.
Mickey-talk is killing me lately. Can we just agree to discuss it when he proves he's worthy of NBA spot minutes? You overlooked 3/4s of my post... he can't guard any one in the post right now and has not shown he has a single offensive skill in the NBA. He's a 2nd round pick... yet he's getting threads dedicated to him. Why do you think he fell that hard? Because DA and several other GMs are stupid? Or b/c he's questionable at this point?
He hasn't shown anything because he hasn't had the chance! Yes he was better than Hunter and I'm sorry that stats aren't enough for you but your eye test means nothing in reality, it's just as meaningful as mine. How the heck do you want him to show you exactly, with magic and whistles? He showed them in the only opportunities he has had! Even though he may deserve to get minutes like any rookie who played well at every level b4 the real games started (and in practice), he isn't better than the guys ahead of him and although this may come as a shock to you, neither is RJ! If AB doesn't go down Hunter would not have had a shot either! Apparently the only way RJ deserves spot minutes (like you claim Mickey isn't worthy of) is when players go down, none of our bigs have gone down, we have so many that even a proven player like Zeller can't crack the rotation... I guess you will say Hunter deserves minutes over him too because when AB went down Hunter played and Zeller didn't.
Personally, I don't see it as Mickey vs. Hunter but I had to say something b/c you are using them as examples of one getting minutes (because of injury) while saying one hasn't proven anything (with no injury to bigs to get that opportunity)!
