Luxury tax is the motivation for the Heat.  Why do it for the Grizzlies?  Is Chalmers better than Udrih?

Traded to the city whose heart he broke 7 years ago.

There's some irony there.

Miami saves money AND gets the best player in the deal? This doesn't make any sense.

A last ditch effort by the Grizzlies to aid their playoff run. I'm beginning to think it's too late for them at this point. I wouldn't rule out a potential blow-up this season if things don't get better. I was a Jeff Green optimist back when he was a Celtic, but man, he has SUCKED this year.

Chalmers gives them a faster pace to help one of the slower teams in the league, but that's about it.

In terms of a backup PG, I think so. I've never liked Chalmers, but he can get streaky/hot, and is more capable than Udrih of dropping 20 points on a team.

I prefer Udrih. Steadier, more controlled, less volatile. Plays within the system. I think Miami wins the deal here. Stokes as a throw in gives them some athleticism/rebounding at the 4 now.

If the Celts had the roster slot, I'd have loved to see Ainge take a flier on Ennis.

What can Ennis do, besides jump?

Chalmers is a better long-range shooter/microwave-type (last season and change notwithstanding), plus he plays better defense.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Chalmers may not have been the best starting PG during the Heat Big 3 era, but he was definitely a serviceable 3 and D type of PG with far better shooting, and better defense than Udrih. I don't like giving up on Stokes though.

Memphis is getting desperate, it seems to me, does this turn into a make or break season for them before Conley opts for free agency?

Well, he's starting where he left off that season, so there's that. Chalmers and Udrih shoot virtually  the same from three for their careers, and Udrih is not going through a season+ long slump.

Thank god we have the Grizzlies future first round pick. They're slowing down as a team already.

He's taken a step back this season, behind Winslow. I'd like to see what he could do with consistent minutes.

Nets have a trade exception big enough for Udrih (or Stokes).  Udrih would seemingly help the Nets.
