Nets have a trade exception big enough for Udrih (or Stokes). Udrih would seemingly help the Nets.
I don't think the Nets would necessarily need to use a TE to acquire Stokes (min salary). But if they did, they have one to accommodate him (and another for Udrih).
Both would be worthwhile gambles for Brooklyn.
Edit: Nets are currently at 15 rostered players, so someone would have to leave to make room.
Udrih would push the Nets into the luxury tax, so that's not happening. Stokes maybe, because the Nets should take flyers on cheap, inexperienced players.
Udrih might actually help them though and they need players.
Deron Williams could have helped them a lot more and they bought him out to get out from under the tax.
Willie Reed's a D-leaguer who got injured in preseason and is out for a few months (exacerbating a big man depth shortage already made acute by McCullough's ACL) and they still wouldn't cut him to retain the healthier (and more useful) Justin Harper because he was partially guaranteed and they couldn't add someone new without treading perilously close to the tax.
I think Billy King will be relying exclusively on payroll neutral trades to improve the Nets. That would mean he'd be offering somebody like Karasev for Udrih. Problem is nobody wants Karasev.
Deron williams wasn't happy though and wanted out and they saved 16 million in the buy out.
