Much as I'd love to see it, I'm not convinced that Sully will keep this up all season. I also have a nagging suspicion that even if he does, he won't maintain this level of play once he has a nice new contract in hand. Though I do love that he has a knack for rebounding, which this team desperately needs.

I do t think so. He likes to play

Im seeing an interesting frontcour rotation of

Amir/Sully
KO/Mickey

In the near future

Sully's minutes must be kept down around 24 or so in order to keep him healthy and allow him to play with the effort he gave tonight more often!  Was awesome to watch.  As far as Mickey goes I really like the kid and its possible he would be a great pairing with K.O., but he would be hard pressed to ever match how well Jerebko and K.O. play together!  Mickey would make for a great pairing next to Sully though.  Sully's best usage on a contender would be playing backup center.

I think you underestimate Sully.  If he can get his conditioning right he is a top player in this league and a lot more talented than people give him credit for.  I personally think Amir is here and Lee to add depth and mickey should play a role ultimately and we need another big man to go with Sully, KO and Mickey.  We'll probably draft one.  I think both Sully and KO are much more talented than they are given credit for though.  Both are potentially legitament starters together on a contender ultimately.  We have Amir right now.  We need another defensive minded big and low post presence to replace him ultimately and bump Mickey up.  I would definately extend Sully depending on conditioning. He has to earn it.  But if Sully steps forward this year which i think eh will he will get his extension. I really feel like Sully is going to turn the corner.  He has to.  He's too good a player and it would be too much of a disapointment if he doesn't.

I see both Sully and KO as staples on our championship run ultimately.  I also think Mickey will be here. Amir and Lee are good and things could even turn around quick this year depending even still.  But I think they get replaced in the future.  Same with Zeller.

I think Sully is going to be a major reason why we are a success this year.  He is going to turn the corner.

I am not underestimating Sully at all.  I really like him as a player.  The huge problem with him is that even if he gets in great shape he will still likely never be able to play at the speed the NBA is trending towards.  In a different era like the late 90's early 2000's he would fit better.  The current environment is forcing bigs to cover tons of ground defensively and switch to guarding much smaller faster players away from the hoop.  This is a monumental task for Sully and it will continue to reflect in his defensive stats very negatively.

For the season so far with Sully on the floor the C's have a def. rat. of 103.7
For the season so far with Sully off the floor the C's have a def. rat. of 88.5

He will probably get traded by February if he keeps up filling the stat sheet. But yeah I agree. I think he will go back to his old habits (being out of shape) once he gets his hands on a big contract.

Interesting.  I have had Amir and Sully as my starters right from the first of these "Who Starts" threads.  I also agree that there is no need to create minutes Lee and Zeller (other than trade-bait showcasing I guess).  So I guess that would leave Mickey.

Sullinger is a very talented player.  It shouldn't be hard to see that for anyone who watches the games.  He does have weight and injury issues though.  I wonder if they have considered stapling his stomach (seriously).  I think he put in work this off season.  It helped in some ways (endurance, agility) but didn't seem to help with the unnecessary extra pounds.

I think he has great hands and is a solid rebounder.   I think he has lost some weight.   His D is still bad, but right now he is moving and that is a huge improvement over what we saw last year.   I want him to do well.  It either helps the team or it will get us an asset.

In his stats from last league, he was not even top ten in rebounds among PF.     But top player in this league is absurd.   Good player on one end of the court is more honest.

What he is a decent rotation player.  I still think he came into camp out of shape but I heard he is doing extra after practice, he has lost some weight and is moving better.   Right now, I'll take that.

Two obvious changes by both players

1. Sullys follow through - keep doing this big fella.

2. KO back to looking like an elf from LOTR. Hey whatever works. If this means to not mess with/cut your hair from late last season then so be it.

3. Sully weight loss has helped him move around better and doesn't look as tired late in games. Better defense

4. KOs new inside/fadeaway. Looks like a nice new weapon. Hasn't missed yet

When Sully plays with energy, he's an effective player.  And this year (so far anyway) he's picked up his defense so he's no longer a sieve when he's guarding someone in the low post.  He's the best back to the basket player on the team and he rebounds.  Negatives -besides the weight issues of course- is I think he's undersized to play the 4. Case in point being the previous game when the Celtics got destroyed with offensive rebounds.  He was a big reason because guys where going over him.

That said, he's obviously earned the coach's respect because he's getting a lot of minutes right now and is playing real well.

The matchup was great for Sully last night going up against a slow Humphries.  If only he had more matchups like this.

I like the tandem of Sully and Amir. (Zeller give way too much ground, and doesn't rebound well enough)

At least with Amir, we have some rim protection, and a good defender, and a some scoring. (also I think right now Amir is playing with a turned ankle)

With Sully you get a good rebounder, he scores, he passes very well, and he knows how to use his bulk on the beefy taller centers and PF stopping them from gaining position right under the basket. (I know conditioning cuts down his minutes) IMO Kelly is the solution there.

That said, it's certainly not a great situation, but it's what we have until we get a long term center.

Great stuff by our young bigs last night.  They both stepped up in what was close to a "must-win" situation, going in 1 and 3 against a team that should have been the distinct favorites.

Amir and D. Lee are solid role players at this point in their careers.  Make no mistake, though, that if the Celtics want to have a successful season, Sully and Kelly have to play like they did last night on a consistent basis.  This is no longer a development year for them.  It's a get-it-done year.

Unfortunately for T. Zeller, he seems to be the guy who got left out.  I like Tyler, but have absolutely no problem with the way this team's rotation has played out thus far.
