And lets Westbrook be the man of the team?

If the Celtics offered the below, would OKC take the deal?

To OKC - Smart, Young, Lee, Sullinger,  4 1st round pick (lotto included)
To Celtics - Huestis, Resigned

lineup after trade

C- Amir
PF- KO
SF - Durant
SG - AB
PG - Rozier

C- Zeller
PF- Mickey
SF - Crowder/Huestis
SG - AB/Hunter
PG - IT

Why would Durant resign with the Celtics post-trade? That's barely a playoff-worthy roster, even in the East.

What are the chances OKC makes an insanely idiotic move and breaks up a championship contender for no reason other than to make the Thunder "Westbrook's team"? Zero.

For that package? On a scale of 0-100?

Somewhere between 0 and never ever ever.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Can't see any scenario where they'd trade him unless he wanted a sign and trade to another team in free agency.
Warriors would potentially send Klay Thompson+Barnes+picks or something but I doubt they'd ever trade him unless it was for Lebron or Anthony Davis caliber player.

So in summary, the only way they trade him is if he tells them he's leaving.
Other than that, never.

Would you trade Durant?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

yes but if Durant has a sec to think, he might not be back next season. That is even a more dumb move, to lose him for nothing

Look at the price the Blazers have to pay now losing Aldrige for nothing.

And Aldrige gave many hints that is a 50/50 chance he might resign.

Eh the blazers will be fine.

Also you take that risk every time for a chance at a title.

As good as LMA is, Durant is totally different. Durant is a special, special player and you don't just trade someone like that because you're scared he might leave in free agency. Additionally, Portland management recognized that last year's iteration of the Blazers had probably reached its ceiling, while OKC is quite possibly the most talented team in the league; they have no incentive to tear it down and rebuild. Basically, the only scenario in which Durant is traded is a sign and trade (and if he leaves, I'd imagine that it is a S&T, much like LeBron's).

Well they've already done that so it's not completely implausible. Am I right James?

I'm gonna quote the basketball Nostradamus Zach Lowe and say that pending any serious turmoil in OKC this season, which, from the looks of things so far, isn't going to happen, Durant is going to go the Lebron route and sign a one year deal with OKC this summer. He's not ditching Westbrook. If he leaves, he leaves the same time as Westbrook and Ibaka in 2017.

"Yeah, let's just punt our chances at a title this season because, for some reason, Durant might decide to leave. We're so ruined if KD walks for nothing; didn't you hear about that new NBA mandate stating that we couldn't subsequently trade two really valuable players in Westbrook and Ibaka if we so choose?"

This "you've got to get something for star players, AT ALL COSTS" mentality is absurd. Why try to win a championship if you can get assets instead?

They didn't break up a championship contender with the Harden trade. People keep forgetting that OKC's season following the Harden trade was their best ever and ranks top 10 in NBA history for SRS with a healthy point differential of just over 9 points (last year's Warriors had a point differential of over 10, for reference). OKC was the best team in the league going into the playoffs by advanced statistics and stood a really strong chance of nabbing the title had Westbrook not gotten injured.

They actually underperformed by winning just 60 games; according to pythagorean expectations, they should've been in the neighborhood of 62-65-ish.

OKC doesn't have enough pieces to win this season.  Their bench is mediocre. They got a new college that has basically zero NBA experience.

Westbrook and Durant do not get along 100 percent. Durant especially has not been happy at times when he has wanted to the ball in his hands

Also there is two ways to think about this.

1. Try to win
2. Stay competitive and build the future

#1 could be risky with Durant possibly not coming back.  Then what happens to OKC?
#2 trade Durant and get a ton back.  OKC is not really a prime destination for UFA
