Keep the Brooklyn pick or trade it for a star?

I think keeping it is a good move. Since if we trade it we are likely going to have to package it with other picks and players to get a star.

Personally I would prefer to watch a star develop on the Celtics rather than trade for one.

this is the biggest question this franchise has to answer this season.
i do not think we should trade it right now, reasons:
1. nobody knows what pick it will be, so you can argubly say, it's value is at "all time low" right now(and until the lottery)
2. we are not goint anywhere this year, so be patient.
3. at draft night, you will have a great insight, since you will actually workout the best projects, and the pick value will be skyrocketing.

The only two "available" guys I'd consider trading it for are Paul George and Boogie.

"Available" as in some disgruntlement, and some swirling but completely unsubstantiated rumors.

The top 2 picks in this draft (Skal & Ben Simmons) are basically top 5 players in value with the cap going up so high next year.  They are the last elite prospects who will be paid so little.  Then, Jaylen Brown (a SF), Brandon Ingram (a SF) and Damian Jones (a C) are all great players at positions of need for us.  I would be EXTREMELY hesitant to trade that pick given that the Nets look like hot garbage and a top 5 pick is basically a 50/50 possibility right now.

The Nets by the way have a super hard schedule to start the season.  They already lost their opener and now have to play the Spurs tonight, then Memphis, Milwaukee, ATL, LAL, Milwaukee again, Houston, Sacramento, Golden State, ATL, Charlotte, then they play us twice in a row.  They could absolutely be 2-12 to start the season and completely demoralized from the get go.

I do agree though that if we got someone like Paul George or DeMarcus Cousins it would be a no brainer even with that, but I just don't see that happening.  If Ben Simmons turns out to be the next LeBron in like 5 years but we get Cousins in his prime, I could honestly live with that.  I just really don't want to trade the pick for someone like DeMar DeRozan or Melo (who are both fine, but come on) or another PF.

I like Bender a little more, but he's neck and neck with Jones right now. At the end of the season they could easily flip.  People were trashing this draft a couple years ago outside of Skal and BS, but I think it will end up having some real good players.

I can't believe this would even be a debate. if we can get a star(and i'm assuming we're talking a star who is still a star and not someone who used to be) then you take it. let someone else draft players and wait n' see. you take established talent over 'possibilities' any day.

the only time i'd say don't is if there's a Duncan, Durant, Lebron type franchise changing player. and last I heard this upcoming draft doesn't appear to have any players of that caliber.

I wouldn't unless we had a Kevin Garnett level player in their prime.
I'd rather gamble on our pick becoming a top 10 player than take Thompson.
That's just my preference and I can see why plenty of people would make the trade in a heartbeat as you said.
