So, I was reading the Popgates Brooklynn Nets Season preview and I came upon this tidbit

Quote
If things go very badly for the Nets, they might have to bite the bullet and ask Boston for their draft picks back and offer Brook Lopez in return. It would be a last resort for the Nets but, unfortunately, their front office has made poor, poor decisions and have put themselves in a very precarious situation. And it makes sense for both teams, the Nets get their draft picks back (and with them, the best chance of success going forward with a rebuild) and the Celtics get the big man they’ve been looking for.

There's no way this happens, right? This is entirely wishful thinking on behalf of the Nets fans, right? Danny wouldn't trade our beloved Nets picks for Brooke Freaking Lopez, RIGHT??

Please assuage me. I do not want an oft injured, purely offensive, big man in exchange for 3 Nets picks.

When Brook Lopez is dialed in, he's really good. But with his injury history, and lackluster defense/rebounding history, there's no way you take a risk on him for what could be 3 straight top-ten selections. This year's pick could be top 5.

All 3 picks for Lopez? No thanks.

There's no way this happens.  The Celtics had the cap room to go after Lopez this summer.  They chose to go a different direction.  No way they give a lottery pick for Lopez.  This is the equivalent of a Celticsblog forum idea.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Nets are desperate. Let's be real if they want to trade Lopez for the picks, the picks are obviously worth more. Why would DA do it? So yes very similar to a Celticsblog forum idea lol

I think I'd give them their 2017 swap rights or 2018 pick back for Lopez. This year's pick stays.

Without Lopez, they'd be in pretty rough shape... and might even live up to the bottom 10 projections.   So I could see the logic in moving 2018 + the 2017 pick swap for Lopez.   He looked good the second half of last season... 19.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks on 53% shooting and 82% from the line.  I still don't think Brooklyn will be as bad as people think.

Danny Ainge isn't giving up those picks unless he can get someone with youth, promise and without injury history.
I really think he'll aim for the fences with these picks and basically won't give them up for anything other than a near All Star player.

The only player I could see him attempting to deal a pick for is Harrison Barnes with the Mavs pick and GSW don't wanna match RFA offers.
I say this because Danny's always loved Harrison Barnes and he fills a position of need and has *some* All Star potential at age 23.

But yeah, it's far more likely we ending drafting all these picks and there is zero chance he trades any Brooklyn picks for Brook Lopez.

I think we talked about this before on here. 3 picks is just silly. but the 2016 pick aloe for Lopez almost makes sense. It would let the nets tank out with their own pick and we get another player. I'm just not convinced Lopez is worth the pick. I wish they had a little more talent so we could make a win-win trade where they get the 16 pick back and we get some talent we want. Maybe there is a 3rd team that would want Lopez and or JJ and could give us some other assets?

I'll bet all my TPs with you that Brooklyn will finish bottom 10 whatever happens.

I'm just struggling to think of 3, let alone 5 teams that will be worse than Brooklyn in the East? Philly, Magic and maybe New York...?  I mean I'd take a team with Afflalo, Calderon, Carmelo, Robin Lopez and Porzingris over Brook Lopez, Thad Young and Joe Johnson...
Who are the Nets currently better than?

I can't see Lopez for picks straight up, that is for sure, but perhaps somewhat more possible is a 3-way.  If Lopez is healthy and playing well, there would be interest from contending teams.  So the third team would need to be someone like Miami who would benefit from Lopez and has some young players that would be of interest to Boston.

I also question whether we are talking about picks (plural) or pick.  I don't think something like this would involve more than 1 of the picks.  I know the swap is a lot less value than a pick but I think this could get done if we wanted to (and I am not sure I would want to), with just the 2016 or 2018 pick plus other lesser parts and pieces.

I suggested this awhile ago where it is the trade deadline and Lopez is healthy and the Nets are in the mix for the 8th seed but decide they would rather go for the lottery than barely make the playoffs so they call up Boston and say we will give you Lopez for Lee and our 2016 pick back.

Lopez is instantly Boston's best big man and probably best player and almost certainly would be better than the player Boston would select with a late lottery or barely make the playoffs pick.  Brooklyn then goes for the tank since they own the pick again.

Plus it makes Brooklyn worse in 2017 and 2018 so it gives that added bonus.

Not a chance. I'm more worried about that Sharknado thing than I am about this deal. No way, now how.
