Deron Williams will miss at least the next two games with an abdominal strain, per ESPN.

Perfect timing here. Dallas also lost Parsons for the season this past week.

Wowzer. Denver 4 games behind. Orlando, New York and Milwaukee 5 games. What chance Dallas go 1-9 over their last 10?

Did we get back more for KG in that Brooklyn trade, than we gave up for him in the Minnesota trade?

Great question. Yes in my opinion. But you have to account for Pierce being sent out as well. In 2007 it was only KG incoming. In 2013 it was both KG and Pierce outgoing.

Now maybe we could look at it as both Ray Allen and KG incoming since KG doesn't come unless Allen is here too. In that case then we sent out a top five pick and Jefferson (never made an all star team but was a legit prospect at the time) for KG along with Allen. In sending out KG along with Pierce I still think we got more in 2013 than we sent in 2007. Especially when you consider everything Danny has done with the Pierce trade exception generated in that deal.

Great Answer.

I wonder what the consensus now among Dallas fans on the impact of "Net Negative Lee" is. Do they still like him over there?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Houston was down 16 just a few minutes ago against the Pacers, but have come back to tie it in the third. Indy owes us one (another loss) from the BKN game.

It's amazing how well Danny has done on trades.

It's amazing how well Danny has done on trades.

People often ask what's the best way to build a contender, through the draft or through free agency.

DA has demonstrated time and time again the answer is neither. You build through trades.

They have quite a few knowledgeable fans over at the Mavs Moneyball site, so I'd imagine many of them have soured on Lee.

According to NBA.com stats, in 15 games David Lee has managed to post the 2nd worst on-court defensive rating (109.3, second only to JJ Barea's 109.5).  His net rating is 3rd worst  on the team at -5.2, with only Villaneuva and Javale McGee being worse.

Lee puts up numbers, but in most cases the chances of his team winning the game go down the more he plays.

Did the Mavs just kind of run out of gas now that Parsons is done?  I haven't watched them, but they've been on quite a downward spiral.

Especially when you consider everything Danny has done with the Pierce trade exception generated in that deal.

It's interesting to compare franchises here by looking at the long-term moves related to the move.

Danny, of course, turned the trade exception into Isaiah Thomas, along with Jerebko and Zeller.

Here's what Minnesota did with Big Al:

2010:  Big Al traded for Kosta Koufus, 1st rounder (Donatas Motiejunas), 1st rounder (Terrence Jones)

2011:  Motiejunas + Johnny Flynn + 2nd rounder (Will Barton) traded for Brad Miller, Nikola Mirotic, Chandler Parsons + 1st rounder (Andre Roberson)

2011:  Mirotic traded for Norris Cole, Malcolm Lee, and cash

2011:  Parsons traded for cash

2011:  Cole traded for Bojan Bogdanovic

2011:  Bogdanovic traded for 2nd rounder (Lorenzo Brown?) and cash

2013:  Malcolm Lee and Andre Roberson traded for 2nd rounder (Alessandro Gentile) and cash

2012:  Brad Miller + two #2s traded to Pelicans for cap space

Breaking that all down, the Twolves basically traded Big Al + two #2s for a whole bunch of garbage.  However, in the interim, they at one time or another owned the rights to Koufus, Motiejunas, Parsons, Mirotic, Bogdonavic, Norris Cole, Terrence Jones, and Andre Roberson.

How does that happen?  How can a franchise be that incompetent, to trade nine separate guys who are still NBA rotation players (including several high upside starters), and get NOBODY back?

I guess it's not that surprising.  All along they had a flawed roster.  But Dirk and Carlisle have a way of seeming like a guaranteed playoffs trip as long as Dirk is relatively healthy.

I'm glad to see that pick in the lottery.  On the other hand, I'm sad to see another really nice season from Dirk get wasted.
