CBS- "Jordan Mickey probably had the best day of anybody in practice yesterday," Stevens said before a team shootaround at Basketball City. "He was dominant. It was outstanding."

What a did I tell you about this kid guys?  He is going to get regular playing time off the bench sooner than many expect.   Very nice block shot yesterday coming out of nowhere (we will be seeing alot of this) and some nice buckets.  His 17 ft midrange has looked near automatic.  Very active on both ends.  Has looked productive with the short amount of minutes he has been given

Taj Gibson comparisons looking good.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He has done really well so far considering his lack of experience.
As have all our rookies.
I've loved RJ'S lobs to him.

Mickey though has done a great job defending from the weak side and staying aggressive on the offensive end.
He .has the potential to be a solid big man off the bench. Learning from Amir and David Lee is going to be great for him.

I just love our younger rookie/sophomore core of Smart, Rozier, Hunter, Mickey and I'm glad that Young has at least made an effort in the off season to bulk up and improve his defensive game.

Those 4 guys + a nice Brooklyn pick will be an excellent young core for the next 5 years if we can't trade for a star.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Last two games Young has been good and all the young guys have done well throughout but can you see DA keeping all of them? Its not a knock on them just that DA can't ever stop himself from trading.

Yes, I don't remember when we had these many decent rookies in the roster.  Not Fab Melo uncertainty.

In a few years I think it's possible we can have a lineup that looks like

KO/Zeller
MickeyJerebko
Crowder/Young
Smart/Hunter
Rozier

Maybe IT will still be around.  If Rozier is not healthy for whatever reason,  Hunter and Smart could start at the backend. Draft/obtain another good upfront player to increase depth

Yeah getting a Ben Simmons would be the icing on the cake.  Or one similar future stud.  But if not,  this would be a solid lineup , solid defense, bbiq, spacing on offense with Rozier, Hunter and Smart all possible to come through in clutch in the 4th.

Mickey has grown a lot on me, but I'm not seeing the 17 footer being close to automatic as you described.

I'll take
Smart/Hunter/Barnes/Mickey/Lab
Rozier/AB/Young/KO/Zeller

What I love about Mickey is he gives the Celtics the one thing (besides a superstar of course) that this team is lacking.  The Celtics apparently were last in the league in blocked shots last season.  For that reason it's easy to say - play him.  But just based on the way they're using him, it seems like they plan to bring him along slowly.  It looks like lots of minutes at Portland to start and then hopefully they start to integrate him the 2nd half of the season - and by integrate, I'm saying put him in the rotation.

His timing is awesome.  But I did notice that he got burned for offensive rebounds a couple of times with the game on the line late.  Like every other rookie he's going to have times when he struggles, but I'm a fan.

As a rookie and someone that is 10-15 pounds away from being able to hold his position against 85 percent of the players in the league, that is going to happen

Still Mickey has good heft for a 1st year guy that can do what he can (240-245 pounds).    He should be easily add another 10 perhaps up to 15 without losing his explosivenss

While Mickey has hops, no doubt, what seems to distinguish him from other leapers and could make him elite as a shotblocker, is his ability to lift a second and sometimes even a third time, with little or no refractory period.

That's especially what I've noticed, and I found this article which corroborates and explains why:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/08/10/celtics-rookie-jordan-mickey-getting-jump-nba-career/59OeRsdiFp1ipSZx3k1AhI/story.html

Quote
Mickey noticed how players such as Amar’e Stoudemire and Dwight Howard were often most dangerous as shot blockers on their second jumps, meaning that if their first attempt was mistimed or otherwise unsuccessful, they could leap again before opportunity vanished.

So Mickey made that a focus of his training, spending hours with a jump rope and practicing his leaps in a flurry, as someone might do if they were standing on hot pavement.

“I seem to catch a few people off guard not knowing I’ll be able to get off the floor that quickly a second time,” he said. “Players think they have me off one pump fake, and then I’m able to get back off the floor before they can get their shot off. It’s something that’s tough to adjust to.”

He does look like he belongs and then some.  Real victim of the loaded front court though.

Mickey might only be 6'7 but he plays much taller. The way he's able to stay upright on defense is impressive. Never slouches or slumps over. He also has a high release on his jumper on offense. I think he may be able to pull off being an effective undersized power forward.
