Lakers looking scary good with their Big 3 of Randle, Clarkson, and Russell. Combined for 74 points and routed the Orlando Magic!

They really did well with their selection of Clarkson. I think that pick alone puts them a bit ahead in terms of their rebuild.

Even guys like Nance are doing well. I want to say it's a case of good stats on a bad team, but maybe it's smart drafting. (Nance went right before RJ, IIRC)
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I hate to be off topic a bit. But what we are doing vs what LAL are doing presents future rebuilding teams with 2 great options to rebuild.

You can either make smart trades, accumulate lots of assets, find players that suit your system, and hopefully cash in assets for a star/develop them.

Or you can tank it for a few years, make smart draft choices (in the second round too!) and develop your talent the long, but possibly more star studded way.

The nets, as I'm sure you know, are a perfect example of what NOT to do.

Future rebuilding teams: take notes.

Not to overgeneralize based on such a small sample size, but this got me thinking about the difference between the 76ers and the Lakers tank, and the affect of having solid veterans on the roster.

Could OP stick odds of winning top 3 (and maybe top 1) for each lottery slot?

Like maths striptease.

4th pick = 37.8% (top 3), 11.9% (top pick)

Certainly, friend.

Ah, yuh, sorry, I meant in the subject title. But yeah, basically, thanks.

If C's sneak into the 3 spot. Odds of getting a top 3 pick go to nearly 50%. Top pick up to 15%

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
So the lakers are  4 games behind brooklyn.

Any chance with 17 games left?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Well the players will give the effort ,  but I don't think the MGMT will put them in enough situations to overtake anyone ....or give up another top pick ......to torture the fans and then give up a great pick would really fly in the face of tank effort.

Nets seem to be solidifying in that 4 spot, but could go from 3-5.  They're playing hard, I give them credit.  Seems like ol Iso Joe might've been holding them back more than we thought.

Ah.. cheers. Yeah, they looked quite good for long patches against toronto. Lopez must be close to a career year..

The Nets are still the same team with or without Johnson.

Wouldn't it be fun if the lottery played out in such a way the Brooklyn cost the Lakers their pick?

for me, no.

As much as I hate the Lakers, I'd rather see them keep the pick this year for 2 reasons:
1. I don't think this draft is strong enough that the top pick will be a difference maker for them next season or for a few years.
2. I don't want to see the Sixers rewarded in any way for their tanking.  That pick was the result of trades designed to make them worse and so they could gamble so more more on lottery picks.

I am beginning to think that the final positioning of where the Nets end up could come down to the outcome of those two Phoenix-Minnesota games. All three teams, the Nets, Suns and Timberpuppies, have winnable games against teams other than themselves. But those two games could be the difference between Brooklyn finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th. I think it might be that close come the end of the year and I wouldn't rule out a couple of these teams tying each other

I haven't been following Philly closely.  Just realized Okafor is out with a knee/shin injury.  Will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.  So, it doesn't sound like he'll play in either of these two games vs the Nets.  Doesn't bode well for a Philly upset of the Nets.  Only thing in Philly's favor is that this it the last game of a long road trip, so the Nets may have their minds elsewhere (although with the 3 days off they went home between games).
