  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I watched most of the Nets game last night and here were some impressions

1. Joe Johnson is either having a poor start to the season or is entering the last stages of his career. He missed some open shots down the stretch that could have made a big difference.

2. The Nets bench unit is awful, so bad that all of their bench players finished in the minus, despite going against another bad bench unit of featuring Vasquez, Plumlee and Obryant.

3. Hollins played Joe Johnson 40 minutes last night and would have played Lopez 40 minutes had he not been in foul trouble. If this consistently happens it is more likely than not that one of them gets hurt.

4. They have had a rough start from the schedule makers with 4 playoff teams from last year to open the season (although I don't think the Bucks without Jabari are a playoff team after watching this game).

5. I expect them to lost to Atlanta in their next contest before having a chance to get their first win against the Lakers next week.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If only "Schadenfreude for Simmons" rhymed...

Simmonsfreude.

Skalenfreude flows a little better for those who prefer Labissiere.

That's just perfect. Perfect. I'm a Simmons fan, but that's almost enough to make me root for Skal.

It was scary just how bad the Nets looked in the 14 minutes that Lopez wasn't playing. As somebody famous once said, I haven't felt this awful for somebody since I saw that Ronald Reagan movie.

I have to say, he's playing well and that foot doesn't seem to be bothering him at all.

I had the same thoughts about the minutes of Johnson and Lopez. As for Johnson's play, Bill Simmons theory that it takes a player to be bad for 2 years before people actually realize he's bad. I think Johnson's game really started to slip last season, just look at his awful percentages, and those ISO Joe days are long gone.

Joe is almost definitely on his way out. There were plenty of signs last year (he was terrible over the last two months of the season and playoffs). He barely even tries on D anymore (did you see Middleton blow by him driving in straight line to the basket?), he doesn't get any 50/50 balls, and he can't get separation against good defenders. He might still be useful as 3rd option post-up and spot-up guy if he had good defenders around him, but Brooklyn has neither the playmakers to set him up nor the defenders to cover his behind.

Starters: Rubio, Danny Green, Durant, Markieff Morris, Capela
Bench: Sessions, Shumpert, G. Green, T. Booker, Frye

Next up ...

Trip to Hot Lanta

 ;D

Aw, nuts, the ATL game is the second night of a back-to-back for the Hawks. Why doesn't Brooklyn ever have back-to-back games? ;)

It helps to remember that the Lakers lose their 1st unless it's in the top 3.  So we want them winning a few games to minimize their chances.

Man, imagine if the Celts get a top 5 pick from Brooklyn and the Lakers lose their pick to the Sixers, despite being a horrible, sad sack team.

That would just be . . . perfect.

It'll never happen for that reason.

On behalf of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Frisbeetarianists everywhere, I hereby grant an advance pardon to all those who root for the Lakers. While your actions may not be traditional, your hearts are pure.

And let us say, Ramen.

I'm curious, who would people rather get a high pick, the Lakers or the Sixers? I'd rather the Lakers kept their pick. My Laker's hate kind of ended when the big 3 broke up.

So long as the Buss family is running that team and Kobe is on the roster, I'm happy to see them flail.

I would like to see the Sixers finally start to put together some NBA talent that can actually play well together.  I like Noel and Okafor, I think Brett Brown is probably a pretty decent coach, and I respect the dedication of their franchise as a whole to a unified vision for building the team up.  I don't blame them for the system that encourages their strategy.

The Sixers are as much a classic NBA franchise as the Lakers or Celts, and it's been too long since they had a genuinely competitive team in Philadelphia.

I wonder if the fellowship of the miserable is starting to change their tune on the nets. When you go against very smart people like statisticians, linesmakers and professional analysts (not just talking heads) you really put yourself out there.

So far the Nets look like one of the very worst teams in the NBA like everyone predicted. Everything that was said over the summer (Joe Johnson continuing to regress, their bench being truly awful) has come to fruition so far. Their next two games are very big for them. If they can not beat the Lakers at home or the Hawks they are facing 0-6 and heading on a 4 game west coast trip. A 1-8 start and it becomes harder and harder to justify forcing Joe Johnson to play 40 minutes a game (and Brook shouldn't be doing it anyways regardless of their standings). Cheers fellas

I think due to all the positive comments about them on this blog and how lot's of people use them as an example of what we should be doing I have come to root against them.

So essentially Celticsblog makes me dislike Philly where I would not care how they do otherwise.

There is also the fact that they are in our division and conference which people, to my shock, don't seem to consider. If everything works out for the 76ers they would be good at the same time we would be and that would make our path to championships infinitely more difficult. Meanwhile the lakers path to contention in the west is much more difficult. I think the 76ers have not been good in so long people forget how rough that would be for the celtics.

Also, they're in our division, so I don't really want to have to deal with them with too much top-tier talent. I mean, they could legitimately bring in two top-five picks again this year to add to Noel, Okafor, and Embiid.

They're going to run into trouble, though, because you can't truly expect to develop that many star players all on the same team. Even to just trade them, they have to be developed enough first to have value, and having "too many chiefs and not enough indians" is just going to hamper each player's development. Also, what player is going to agree to go to that losing culture right now in a trade? Philly could offer up one of their top-five picks for a disgruntled star, but I can't imagine any disgruntled star willingly going to Philly right now.
