The math on this stuff can get pretty crazy pretty fast. Taxes on that kind of salary are pretty high. He's also paying an agent 10-15% of whatever he makes and my understanding is that that comes off before taxes. Then he's got some kind of money manager/accountant because he's a 20 year old millionaire and he's paying that person. A publicist, probably. I don't know what percentage of $1.33 mil that leaves him with but it probably doesn't feel like a lot to a kid who thought he was going to make that amount.
That said, as outrageous as prices in NYC are, he's making enough money to live very comfortably. And most people do that in New Jersey or Westchester County, north of the city, anyway.
