c18, you might want to go back and edit a typo. you mispelled "celtics" in the number 1 spot as "cleveland."  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I am sorry but I am optimistic. In my mind I think they will be quite a bit better than last year. Progress from Smart & Sully, the consistency of Crowder on both sides of the ball, and the defense of Amir will be the main reasons why as well as chemistry. They will win 50 plus this year.

1.  Cleveland
2.  Chicago

I opened this thread and read as Datura, a song by Bardo Pond, started playing. Datura, for those who may not know, is known to produce delirious states in people that ingest it --  full on Luis Buñuel stuff.

Timdawgg, please, put down the Jimsom Weed.  :P

Great song, though (if you like psychedelic rock anyway) , and I love the optimism.

Let me put it this way.

Cleveland, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington.

Those teams are a lock for the playoffs.

Then there's the following:

Boston, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Miami, Detroit, Indiana, Toronto, Orlando.

I think you could make a case for pretty much any ordering of that group.

On top of that, you've got Brooklyn and New York, either of which could end up mixed in toward the middle or bottom half of the previous group.

Finally, there's Philadelphia, which is a lock to finish at or near the very bottom of the conference.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Are you asking for seven teams who have less talent/worse rosters, or are you asking which seven teams will finish with lesser records once the season is over? Because those are two different questions.

Boston has twelve games against the Knicks, Nets, and Sixers. Those might be all it takes to grant the Celtics a seventh or eighth seed over a "better" Central or Southeast team.

figure the 6 teams that finished better than us will do so again this season.

add Miami to that list so there's 7 teams right there.

C's will be battling Indiana, Charlotte and Detroit for that 8th spot.  Personally, I think Indy just beats them out.  C's end up in the lottery and get the 12th pick most likely.

my reasoning is that the other teams ahead of them didn't become worse than the C's in the offseason.  Miami and Indy get major additions via returning from injury and free agency and the draft.  Charlotte changed the locker room chemistry so they may indeed perform better this year.  Detroit lost Monroe who may have held back Drummond and added Johnson.  they may be better as well.

Orlando has some top youth prospects that are ready to make the leap.  they should be better this year.

NY gets Melo back and signed some decent players.  Porzingis might actually help a bit this year.  they'll certainly be better.

Philly and Brooklyn figure to be bad and are the only ones I would consider locks to finish worse than the C's.

I pretty much agree with that, except I also have Miami in that top group, actually placing them ahead of Chicago.

Cleveland
Chicago
Miami
Washington
Atlanta
Boston
Indiana
Milwaukee

Toronto
Detroit
Orlando
NY
Brooklyn
Philadelphia
Charlotte

And I think I'm putting Milwaukee too high. MCW and Giannis are overvalued and I have a feeling Monroe will be a bad fit. I only have them at eight assuming Jabari Parker can produce smth this year.
And Philadelphia, try as they might, never get to be bottom...
