our strength right now is depth, where we're stacked at each position with each guy being about as talented as the next guy. the problem is the talent level these guys share in each position is generally mediocre (except for PG).

IMO, we're a couple of awesome non-PGs away from being great.
Well said TP!

Sure, but most teams are a LeBron / Durant / Bird / Scotty / Prime-McGrady away from being great.

Agreed.  I'm iffy on Scottie, who would certainly elevate a team but perhaps not to the "great" level.  With TMac, it's hard for me to buy into team greatness for a guy who never made it out of the first round.

Since there are many 3's in the top of this draft the logical solution would be to tank and nab one with our pick and then have the potential to have another top pick with BKN. I like Brandon Ingram for a top 5 pick. He's a year younger than most everyone and that might help people overlook him because he is so skinny.

I think we are the only team without an All star caliber player(or on a very short list). For the zillionth time I would trade ET AB IT KO etc for prospects and picks in 2017. I'd love to get Myles Turner.

This got me thinking long and hard.

Given the current state of the team we may actually have the  capacity for greatness already. ... this season will answer a lot of questions. But what piece we actually lack is dependent on which of our current players realize their potential first. Is Marcus the next D-Wade? Is KO the  next Dirk? Can Sully become our Karl Malone and average say 18 & 10? Young, PJ 3, RJ all have star or at least starter potential.

Once someone flashes, our team will take shape around them and what we really need will become clear.

I think the entire front court needs upgrading

Actually - our front court is SOLID.

Zeller is an OK starter and a good backup and Amir Johnson is solid at center as well.
As for PF - we are STACKED.

Our wing is terrible. Crowder is an undersized power forward. Jerebko is better at the 4 and even the 5. ET is sub par at either spot. AB is a bench guy at best and is an undersized PG (OK height, too slim) and a TINY SG.
What does solid mean? What do you mean by stacked? We have a lot of PF, but none of them are all star caliber. Amir is the closest we have to an all star, and he hasn't reached that level of performance yet.

I would love to see a more fit Sully tear it up, but we are average at PF at the moment.

You don't evaluate a teams talent at a position by adding the talent of all players. If you look at what we put out at PF over 48 minutes, it is just average -- and that is a position where we are supposedly strong.

We aren't "really good" at any position. Every position needs to be upgraded.  But yeah if you stuck lebron on this mess of a roster, we'd probably threaten for the eastern conference finals... But you could say that about pretty much every team including Philly.   Cavs went from winning 60 games to 24 when bron left.
