I think there will be a trade so it won't matter. Ultimately I think it will most likely be Morris the way things are shaking out.

But if no trade were to occur, Perry Jones is just flat out more talented than young and hasn't had a chance to develop in OKC so I think he gets the nod

:o Based off of what exactly? A three game stretch?

Technically Young has had less time to develop here than Jones did in OKC.

I'd wait until pre-season to determine who is better than whom, and this is coming from someone whos optimistic about PJII.

I'm not even saying he is "better". I just IMO believe he has more talent than james young and far more potential even though he is older

I disagree.

Given that the kid played one year of college ball and turns 20 tomorrow (younger than Rozier and Hunter), I think people should really just look at last year as a redshirt year for Young and act like this is his rookie year.

So... You're saying he's not better but he's more talented?

Any talk of cutting james Young is foolish.

When he was drafted, everyone knew he was a project who was going to take some time to develop. Dumping after one year, before we even know how good he could be, would be very silly.

The kid's two years away from being two years away.  I love his shooting motion but you can't watch him and not think he looks lost like 60 percent of the time.

Gerald Green had a great shot and lots of potential too... The problem was it took him five years to realize that potential.

We already drafted a guard at 28 this year who's better than Young and is going to get his playing time.

If he can't outplay PJIII I say cut him loose.  He might come back to haunt us but it won't be for years.  In today's NBA you're just so much better off signing guys like Young on their second or third contract and NOT being the team that develops them.

Yep. And what I've never seen discussed here is his ceiling. Perhaps it's too difficult to tell, given how green he is... but I'd guess he would ceiling out at Jeff Green 2.0.

I love how people are already certain RJ Hunter is an NBA player who will break into our crowded rotation.

Right?

For some reason, Hunter is going to have no trouble breaking into the rotation even though we've never seen him in a pro game and 27 NBA teams passed on him in the draft (including us at 16) but James Young, who was drafted as a project, is a lost cause after only 1 season of playing in the D-League.

Incredible.

Incredible.

My sentiments exactly, especially since Hunter may not have the athleticsm to complete at the NBA level. I like the kid, but there have been lots of smart college players who could shoot who never could cut it at the pro level.

But as always, it's easier to fantasize about the unproven rookie.

Exactly. He's perfect until he has to actually play. And I feel good about his skills but I'm not ready to make any declarations until I see it.

Ditto for Jordan Mickey. Guys have been drooling over him because of his summer league play. I was impressed by Mickey but I'm not ready to deem him anything until he shows he can handle NBA competition.

Funny enough, the guy who I think is going to be the best of this rookie class is Terry Rozier, and no one really wants to talk about his potential.

I would say that his ceiling is more of a Mo Pete type of player. I think that Jeff is more athletic and is more of a SF/PF while Mo Pete and Young are SG/SF.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think people are just happy with the value we got in RJ and Mickey after a head scratcher of a first pick with Rozier. But, of course Rozier is expected to be the best of our rookies - he was taken WAY higher than any of the others.

I must have missed where people were saying that.

I just looked through the thread and didn't see any claims of the sort.

Welcome to cb, where each shiny new toy is expected to start and eclipse last year's shiny new toy. Nothing new about that.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
