Great Read!

Important highlights:
Dealing someone from another position could be possible. Some rival front-office figures believe the Celtics should try to move Evan Turner first.

"Not because I'm sold on Perry Jones," said one, "but because we know what Turner is, and he's probably not the best fit for the (Celtics) future."

and
Earlier this week, Grantland's Zach Lowe wrote, "Boston could always trade a big to ease the roster crunch, and (Jared) Sullinger might be the likeliest candidate to go. He's had constant conditioning issues, he's still a sub-30-percent shooter from deep after two years of hoisting, and he's probably never going to be a plus defender. His agent, David Falk, does not mess around in extension talks. If Falk can't get Sullinger a huge deal, he will have no qualms taking him into free agency."

Reports on Sullinger's offseason progress have been promising, but Ainge was clearly frustrated last season by the big man's lack of commitment to his body. Even if Sullinger does whip himself into much better shape this summer, doubts should linger about whether he can sustain it after receiving a bigger payday. The 23-year-old will be entering a contract year if he does not sign an extension by the end of October.

Even with the extra weight, Sullinger has produced inside and on the glass, and moving him now -- months after he suffered a stress fracture in his foot -- would be selling low. But the Celtics loaded up in the frontcourt this summer, adding Amir Johnson and David Lee to go with the re-signings of Jonas Jerebko and Jae Crowder. If there is any position at which they can afford to trade away depth, it's power forward.

Now how can the C's clear up this mess. Me personally I'd ideally like to see Favors on in a C's uniform but I'm not sure how that could happen at all. I don't even see Utah accepting an expiring ET, Sully and 2018 Nets pick and Minn. pick for Favors. Can you?
There is a need for an experienced PG in and shot creator in Utah since Exum went down but how to get it done AND grab Favors???

by the way the article also suggests that Perry III should stay!

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The problem is, if Utah wants a stopgap solution to compete this year, then Turner would be a fantastic option; however, if they are looking to compete, I don't see how they trade Favors under any circumstance.

I agree, though, I would LOVE to have Favors and actually think your offer looks more than reasonable in value.

I think Favors IS a franchise building block, pair him along with Smart and you potentially have something in the LEastern Conference.

Strongly agree with both parts of this.

I think we're overstating Utah's need for another ball-handler. Trey Burke, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, the Brazilian guy they like and even Hood can be capable ball-handlers. It may not be ideal, but it's workable and they're still a work in progress anyway. Bradley fits there long term, and gives them the defense and off ball skills they need in the back-court. Turner would be a good-stop gap for the season though. Maybe we can build a trade around combining them and Sully.

I would strongly support a Sullinger trade anywhere, including Utah. It would ease the Celtics' frontcourt logjam.

I have harped on Sully a lot.  But we should not trade him unless we get something in return for him.

I would Sully for Hood if the Jazz would do it.

Every year, Sully has said he would come to camp in better shape.   It has not happened but it may happen this year.   Ainge hedged his bets and took some precautions this year to mitigate this factor and the impact of Sullinger being in shape.   He also harped all off season about getting more athletic so he drafted Mickey.

I would love to see Hood on the C's. Hed dolve a lot of our SF backup problems.

I like Sullinger's potential and I have faith he's turned the corner on his conditioning.

That said, I would trade him in a second if Favors was on the table. Sullinger, Turner, Bradley and some picks could maybe get him. He'd have to be on the table to begin with, though.

My thinking is Gordon Hayward could be made available by the Utah Jazz due to the development of Rodney Hood. As was stated earlier in this thread, Evan Turner is a good temporary replacement for Dante Exum. Considering these, I proffer this (theoretical) trade:

Boston sends:
Avery Bradley
Evan Turner
Kelly Olynyk
2016 2nd Round Pick
2017 2nd Round Pick

Utah sends:
Gordon Hayward
Elijah Millsap
2016 1st Round Pick

Result:

G Isaiah Thomas / Terry Rozier / Elijah Millsap
G Marcus Smart / RJ Hunter / James Young
F Gordon Hayward / Jae Crowder / Perry Jones III
F David Lee / Jared Sullinger / Jonas Jerebko
C Amir Johnson / Tyler Zeller / Jordan Mickey

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Funny 'Friday' reference. Now pass the Jam Jam and lemme see how deluded I look in your eyes. Seriously though, the trade I proposed ain't that bad and yes, Rodney Hood...

Yeah I don't think anyone can reasonably cosign that logic as it stands. Care to explain?

My logic: (Pardons in advance)

Utah Jazz after trade (ET, AB, and Oly for Hayward):

G - Avery Bradley / Trey Burke
G - Alec Burks / Rodney Hood
F - Evan Turner / Joe Ingles
F - Favors / Trevor Booker
C - Gobert / Olynyk

Believe it or not, Utah's success late last season was rooted in their defense. Having Bradley in your lineup helps compensate for the loss of Exum and then some. Turner can provide a bit of the playmaking like Hayward while allowing Rodney Hood to further develop with the additional playing time. Having Olynyk solidifies their second unit. I think the combined production of AB, ET and Oly makes up for the loss of Exum (1 year) and Hayward.

- ET averaged higher rebounds and assists compared to Hayward:
ET 9.5ppg 5.5rpg 5.1apg vs Hayward 19.1ppg 4.1rpg 4.9apg
- AB 13.9ppg vs Exum 4.8ppg (yes, that's 4.8 points per game)
- Olynyk 10.3ppg 4.7rpg
- you are also getting playoff experienced players if that helps my argument...
