As we continue to get better, Ainge will probably bring in some washed up star. We did it before with Payton, and before ainge with Wilkens. I bet we do it again. Let's speculate? Who will we get in the next few years that will help but just be a few years too late?

At ths point it is different from Shaq and Sheen and Cassel. Those guys came becasue we were crazy good an they wanted a ring. IMO right now we are at a similr point to when we traded for Payton years ago. One an upswing but not really good enough. Like then, we need a little legitimacy.

Any guesses?

I wouldn't be surprised if we wound up with Love sometime in the 2020's.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Yep. Gerald Wallace, Evan Turner, David Lee,  Rondo ,we've already had a parade of them recently. How many more washed up stars do we need?

Well, Gerald Wallace was only acquired as salary filler, and Evan Turner was never really a star.

I think Lee is the first former-All-Star-who-might-have-something-left that Ainge has acquired to this point in the rebuild as a guy who could be a trade asset and who can help the team seem more legitimate.

Usually that kind of move is a bridge to nowhere (see your Payton and Wilkins examples), so let's hope it doesn't happen.  Also Ainge just burned Brooklyn by trading them his aging stars, I hope he's not going to turn around and overpay for someone else's.

It will be tough to nab a free agent that way, since most about-to-be-washed up stars seem more content to go ring chasing now if they're a free agent, though I guess Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah could be possibilities.  Noah will be free agent in 2016 at age 30, Rose in 2017 at age 28, and with those guy injuries lately (and decline in Noah's game), it will be interesting to see what the market is for those guys.  They might still have something left to prove and could want one more big contract before they go the ring chasing route, and Chicago might not want to re-up with them at the price they're looking for.  You could get them either as a free agent or trade depending on what's going on in Chicago.

From a trade perspective, how about Chris Bosh if Miami needs to blow it up in a couple of years?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Noah seems like a guy Ainge would go after.  Could be a sort of redux of Theo Ratliff.

Yeah but Noah can still play right?

Does Lee really count as a former star?

I'm not proposing we break the bank for anyone. Rather we can't use all out spots to develop guys, we need a few teachers.

It really doesn't hurt or help that much. Its just something that happens. At some point it will happen again.

Yeah but if at this point next year we've got 33 year old David Lee and 31 year old Joakim Noah as our starting frontcourt, with over $30 million a year committed to them for at least a couple of seasons, how should we feel about that?

Yeah but the cap is going up and we need to spend somewhere. Obviously if there is a better opttion go for it, but I like Noah's game. He is a winner in my book and I'd take him at any point at any role. 3rd string center 3 years from now, fine. Startiing 5 right now, yeah that would be great too.

For me- yeah I want titles but I also want a good team on the floor all the time because I like to watch games and I have more fun watching the games if we are winning the games. I'm not for trading the future away for a few more wins, but if we could get a Kobe or Dirk (or whoever) even though I know we arn't going to win a title while they are here, i would be fun and wouldn;t necessarily  set us back.

Yeah, I don't necessarily disagree. It could be interesting.  If the Nets and Mavs picks turn out well and Ainge makes a trade for a younger, more exciting piece -- whether it's a guy the Celts draft or a budding star -- having Thomas, Smart, Lee, Noah (plus a handful of other young guys) in place as the supporting case wouldn't be a terrible idea.

If we've got Brandon Ingram or Jaylen Brown or some other potential star to add to that group, I wouldn't feel bad about our situation at all.
