This training camp will either be the most competitive cluster in Celtics history, or another trade HAS to be made

Another warm body to make the guard competition at camp insane.

Maybe they'll cut James Young

don't forget mickey was 2nd rounder, holmes would be a 2nd rounder -he went undrafted-celts almost bought a 2nd-we could draft a bunch of euros---this guy doesn't stand a chance  but miami couldn't risk upsetting his brother-at least he has a chance-no way

I mean, he does technically stand a chance since his contact is guaranteed. We have to do something, regardless of what that something ends up being. We can't just wish him away and be closer to fifteen contracts, not even counting the SL and impending camp standouts.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

So dumb. How is Miami's future 2nd round pick an asset? I don't get what Ainge is doing. Really annoyed with the unbalanced Roster. He's going to damage the growth of his young players if he has a bunch of guards.

It's pretty simple.  Dragic is highly unlikely to make the team.  If he were likely to make the team, the C's wouldn't get the pick.  They are being compensated with the pick for saving Miami money.  In the future, if the C's are in a situation where they need to dump a contract or two to get under the luxury tax or create more cap room, they will be able to use this pick, or the Detroit pick they got from OKC for PJ3.  It's about using the cap flexibility they have now to acquire distant assets that might help create cap flexibility in future years.  It's very smart, and good long-term planning.  I wouldn't be surprised if Dragic were just released before training camp.

[dang], I can't wait for these battles that will take place. I would be quite surprised if Dragic makes the final roster, but you never know. He's supposed to be a pretty solid player.

A league source says the Heat agreed to pay Zoran Dragic's salary next season and that the Celtics intend to waive him.

Instantly wins "coolest name on the roster" award.

Dragic makes $1.75 million.  Is that cheap for a late second round pick?

Right...But even with Dragic cut this roster is imbalanced. Nobody wants your second round picks, especially one that is so low. The evidence is from this offseason when Ainge tried to cash in. Please remember that Mickey was a high second round pick and let's see what he turns into. If his is Taj Gibson, then yeah, great pick. But if he's another Brandon Bass, who cares. We just had Brandon Bass and nobody was willing to give anything of value for him. I get your point about flexibility, but nobody wanted anything we had to offer this year. So I don't understand why obtaining a 2nd round pick should be considered an asset. AND I don't see how this resolves my concern of an ubalanced roster. They need to play the young guys and force them to accustomed to playing against good competition instead of playing against D-leaguers.

pratice body!! I hope

same, another practice body, don't mind it but I wonder what we are giving up

One of Sullinger's butt cheeks...

I saw this pop up on my twitter feed.  But none of the Celtics guys I follow had this.  Made me wonder what the story on this is.  So now 17 contracts.  Seems like something must be cooking...or then maybe not.  But intriguing...

Nothing's really cooking.  C's had $4.8 million in temporary cap space that disappears once Lee is traded for.  Owners are letting Danny spend it to buy future 2nd-rounders.  Now we're down to a shade over $3.3 million.  We'll see if OKC can shed a little more.  DJ Augustin makes $3 million and the Thunder are at 16 roster spots...

They're at 14 roster spots, actually. Augustin isn't expendable, anyway; they're not entrusting Payne to be Westbrook's primary backup in such a pivotal year. If they were to trade anyone, it'd be Novak, but they're apparently not terribly concerned with getting his salary off the books since he's so good in the locker room.
