  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
ainge would not trade zeller and  unless jones has incredible training camp and brad says gotta have  him, he's gone or if sully comes back overweight and out of shape-javaale mcgee has yet to latch unto a team so maybe perry is just another big with talent that isn't going to happen

Why wouldn't Ainge trade Zeller? We have a slurry of big men and Zeller doesn't have much more of a ceiling as an NBA player.
He's also expiring like Perry Jones, and Jones fills a position of need at the SF spot where we currently have Crowder and a part time Evan Turner.

In fact Jones could come in as our back up small forward quite easily.
Are we really going to keep a big man rotation of:
Olynyk
Sully
Lee
Johnson
Mickey
Zeller?

That's 6 big men, 4 of whom are expiring. Lee and Amir aren't getting traded until at least the All Star break. That leaves Sully, Olynyk and Zeller all in the *possibly* trade bait category.
I'm not saying it's a guarantee, and there's every possibility that they waive Perry Jones, but I would say there's still a chance Danny finds a trade before just waiving someone.

I thought Amir Johnson signed a two year contract?

Lee, Sully, and Zeller are expiring.  Johnson, Mickey, and Olynyk aren't.  You are probably counting Olynyk as an expiring contract, but we have a team option on his rookie contract for the following season.  I wouldn't count that as expiring.
Amir's 2nd year is non-guaranteed or 'team option'. Essentially the same thing.

So he's not an expiring contract unless we want him to be an expiring contract.  To me, that's a significant distinction.

What's the distinction?
If we want him to be expiring, he can be. If a trade partner wants him to be expiring, he can be.
Not sure what you mean?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The distinction is that he is more valuable in a trade because the other team has the choice of whether to use him to offset salary or keep him.

I thought your point was more in line with, "we may as well trade our expiring contracts, because chances are they won't be around next year anyway, or we can't control them beyond this season."

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm hoping one of the two, or even both of the defensively challenged power forwards we have gets moved.

Kelly Olynyk, granted while having a unique skill set for a 7' PF, will always be a gateway for the opposing  teams bigs to thrive. He is literally glued to the floor, except when getting a running start. Reason to keep him...his inexpensive salary.

I have no faith in Sully ever loosing enough weight to gain the "conditioning" he needs to not be a liability in up-paced, full court, professional basketball. He always starts by saying the right thing about his weight, and eventually begins believing his alter ego about it being about proper conditioning, and not about bodyweight. If Sully weighs in, one ounce over 255, it should be bye bye. Don't forget it's a contract year for him.

Turner was a nice reclamation project, but it's time for him to, (as show dog breeders say) be placed in a pet home. A team where he will be an 8th or 9th. guy off the bench. He should not get minutes over RJ, or Smart ever.

rj hasn't proved anything yet but summer league-turner is still a valuable tool and maybe better this year
-james young was gifted time way before he was ready and as much as i like rj for his passing and control whan probing he needs bulk and a nba test then there is defence
,turner was instrumental in last season as a player who can make his own shot and play decent d-a proven vet
smart had a nba body and defence-rozier is a rookie who has much to learn-hope the rookies and young enjoy lobsta
